Sweet craftsman cottage in south Berkeley, built in 1914. This home is creaky and charming in all the ways that "built in 1914" implies. The cottage boasts original finishes, ebony stained hardwood floors, bright cream and ivory paint on the walls. Best for a single person rather than a couple i.e., couples not accepted. Please note the stairs to the entry are quite steep, this is not for the faint of heart - and the entry is very narrow, this a climbing experience rather than a walking experience and best for those who tread lightly!
For rent is the quaint and private attic room, furnished with a real bed (single) and luxury linens and soft towels for your stay. The picture shown is a full sized air bed and that is available if you prefer it. When you enter, warm wood surrounds you and a skylight allows for sunlight, there is a fan for summer days and space heaters for cool mornings - the room does not have central heating or insulation so this is for those used to utilizing blankets and sweaters. Peaceful space, best suited for those who don't require a lot of amenities as the small access allows for easy entry but not for large pieces of furniture!
In the past it's been used as a yoga studio, meditation space, guest bedroom and office. The bathroom is downstairs, shared 1.5 bath.
Lovely diverse neighborhood, safe and friendly, walkable community, near several parks and shopping areas. Plenty of free street parking.
Close to Berkeley Bowl, Ashby BART Station,Tool Lending Library,Thai Temple, tennis courts, Trader Joe's, Crixa Cakes and the UC Berkeley campus. On the other side we're bordered by Temescal in Oakland with Sweet Adeline Bakeshop, Bakesale Betty and all the great things Telegraph has to offer. College Ave is another fun street in the Rockridge neighborhood, also close by - Zachary's Chicago Pizza, Toast and Gordo Taqueria are just a few of the tempting options. Piedmont Avenue is a little further away but still a short bike ride or drive. Piedmont is known for it's old movie theater, great antique/vintage shops and restaurants of every description; Fenton's Creamery, Cesar's, Geta's to name a few. Easy commute into San Francisco, corner of Martin Luther King Jr., just off of the Ashby exit.
House dog reigns supreme, sociable and loving with people, she's alpha with other dogs so probably best not to have a roomie with a dog themselves, I'm sorry.
Very small back patio, completely fenced, private and perfect for afternoon sunning or a glass of wine at day's end. Entry to the house is thru the patio gate and back door/kitchen after 8pm.
