Ce que vous allez faire
Firstly, I will briefly walk you through the history of photography, its process and what is cyanotype. You will learn how to make cyanotype step by step such as to prepare your own light-sensitive paper. On top of that, we will explore nearby garden to learn of local plants and surrounding nature. We shall also explore ways to compose your art using found objects and negatives while practice exposing & developing paper to produce cyanotype prints. It all sounds so technical but anybody could enjoy this workshop without prior knowledge of cyanotype. Just like me a year ago! It is fun, easy to learn and ideal for experimentation. You shall bring home at least 4 pieces of artwork and place one of them in your own frame which we will provide in this workshop. Best of all, you get to bring home a DIY Cyanotype Kit complete with everything you need to continue experimenting at home or when you’re out by the beach. Workshops are run in small group/private session. This is done so in order to have more time to appreciate the process and experience working with hands & the natural surrounding. Be prepared to get messy with chemicals and some fun under the sun!
I am Balqis Tajalli, a Malaysian designer who loves observing the great outdoors and collecting inspiration from everyday objects. I studied architecture in South Korea and have worked for 5 years in the design & build industry. Upon coming back home to Kuala Lumpur to visit an art show, I discovered cyanotype & immediately fell in love with the colour blue and its fascinating process. Since then, I have explored several projects including an art print series using some of the materials and methods in which participants shall explore in this workshop. Feel free to drop me a message if you have any questions regarding this workshop :)

We will conduct our workshop in an semi-outdoor studio which is below the towering tree house I called home. It is almost wild without being directly in the jungle so you will hear the birds, bees and bump into flurries of butterflies in the space. Almost everything around us are handcrafted by family and artists friends. You'll get to enjoy local refreshments as well as exploring cyanotype leisurely at your own pace.
