We will have a philosophical walk discussing the philosophy of Zeno of Citium, the founder of Stoic Philosophy, which was one of the governing thoughts throughout the Graeco-Roman Period (332 BC -395 AD). This was an organized movement for some five centuries which the main purpose of it, was the achievement of happiness (eudaimonia) through living a life in accordance with nature. With the Stoic Philosophy, and through it, Western Philosophy ceased to be specifically Greek and became international and is very practical and useful even to our days. We will make an introduction into the basic characteristics of this thought and we will also do some philosophical exercises that will be focused on finding our personal meaning in life, emotional control and achieving self discipline. While we will be making our philosophical walk, we will have the chance of passing from the major sightseeings of Larnaca (such as the ancient city of Citium, the marina, the Europe square where Zeno's statue is located, the coastal Road known as "Finikoudes, the Castle, etc) and giving a brief description for each one of them, so you will get a historical sense of the town. The walk will be in a very slight pace, with lots of stops in the way.
I work as a Marketing Manager in a retail company and I am one of the administrators of a philosophical club in the island, where we hold monthly lectures and other activities on the subject. I am in love with the field of philosophy and especially with the Ancient Greek one, which I study continuously for the last two decades. My major goal in life, is to bring people in touch with the Ancient Greek thought and with the values of the Ancient Greek Civilization in general, which are mainly governed by humanism and freedom. I am also very passionate with history and with discovering the hidden information behind every event that happened in the past and sharing this unique perspective with others.
