Wonderful family atmosphere with three generations involved and an abundance of good humor and enthusiasm for the experience. Here are genuine smiles, deep knowledge, and the chance to drink tea from ancient pots.

We went for this activity together so im leaving two reviews: It was a real pleasure to meet Machiko san and her family. The tea ceremony was very interesting and full of that magical and unique care about details you can find only in Japan. Then there was the sushi making part which was very fun as well! In this part you can especially feel how friendly and welcoming Machiko san family is. Calm and relaxing time! Thank you very very much! ( I would recommend also to take some time after the activity and just stroll around the neighborhood. Machiko san can provide you a map. There are lots of shrines and temples and, for someone like me who loves observing those little everyday details, this part of Tokyo is especially interesting.

I will qualify ahead of time that I didn’t have any prior experience with the Tea Ceremony, other than I knew it was very formal. I was really worried that I would make a faux pas or it would be inaccessible. From the moment that I was greeted at the door by three Generations of Kimono-clad nadeshiko, it was a lovely, personal experience. I speak a little Japanese so I think i was able to have a little deeper experience. The tea ceremony was delightful. My host, Atsuko was extremely forthcoming with explanations of the ceremony, the particular details of the room as well as an explanation of each of the antique bowls in turn before allowing me to select my own for the ceremony. Before the ceremony, there is a lovely seasonal sweet to be eaten that contrasts nicely with the tea, and gives you another sense to enjoy while the ceremony is happening. The ceremony itself was incredibly moving and intimate. The tea master is so focused, from the moment the sensei pulled out the bright orange handkerchief, I was transfixed: all my senses were heightened to a hyper awareness. I had goosebumps and the overwhelming sense of presence and connection that I have rarely experienced. The sushi making was also a treat, Machiko was very supportive, and Atsuko took pictures to capture the fun. Before leaving, Atusko provided me with a map and some suggestions to other sights to enjoy in the neighborhood. Five-star experience in the tradition of Japanese hospitality.

Wonderful experience. The small shop is very cute and Machiko and her family were so inviting. The tea ceremony was great and they explained everything and answered all my questions. The sushi part was yummy and filling! Was so glad I decided to do this.
