If you want to experience what NY is really about, come to Queens and check out the markets, the culture, and the authenticity of the food! There is no other place like it. On this tour, you will see what it’s like to be a local eating in NYC’s Indian neighborhood. As we walk through the bazaar sipping chai, you can see beautiful displays of ethnic Indian wear, window shop the extravagant jewelry, get some spices from the supermarkets, and of course eat some delicious food! We will be trying some of the most popular Indian foods from hidden gem restaurants in the area. We will definitely have a few chaats! This may include pani puri and samosa chaat. (Vegetarian) Chaat- A savory subcategory of appetizers characterized by the mixture of lentils, yogurt, fresh veggies, tangy, savory chutneys, all topped on a base of samosas, or filled inside of a crispy chip shell. Trust me, it’s an explosion of flavor and textures that will excite your senses to the max! We will try pakoras, a common snack characterized by veggies dipped in chickpea flour (besan) and fried like tempura. (Vegetarian/GF) A meticulously prepared south Indian breakfast item- either idly or dosa. (Vegetarian/GF) A kati roll, common street food that’s like a chicken wrap with kabobs. And a few other items depending on the tour! Items may be adjusted to fit the size or preferences of the tour group.
Hello! My name is Nisha but most refer to me as a kabob enthusiast, a pizza connoisseur, or "that food girl". Ever since I can remember my passion has been to try new food, understand how it's cooked, and share my food finds with my friends. Growing up, I learned that food brought people together and I loved this! My interest really peaked whenever I would visit India and see all the different ways food was prepared. Lentils were pulverized, meat was steamed in clay pots, and veggies prepared with so much love. While I love all food, Indian food is where my heart and soul is. Every ingredient is my alphabet, and every cooking session with my mom is my lesson. For years I've been sharing my food recommendations on my Instagram (@foodie_nishi) and taken my friends on food tours all across New York. I would love to do the same for you :)
