After meeting at the trailhead and making introductions, we will enter the magical Sonora Desert for a 3 mile journey on any number of world-class trail systems the Tucson region has to offer. Once the hike has begun, as your guide, I will share the natural history of the Sonora Desert with you as well as some fascinating, little known facts about the area. From there, we will continue hiking deeper in to this desert paradise with numerous stops along the way as I share my unique local knowledge and insight with you about the unusual flora and fauna that inhabit the Sonora Desert, including lot's of really interesting information about the majestic Saguaro cactus, which grows nowhere else on the planet. Please be sure to bring a hat, sunscreen and your good camera as there will be plenty of great photo opportunities during this excursion.
I am a Sonora Desert Specialist and know Tucson and it's surrounding areas like the back of my own hand. I have been exploring in and around the Sonora Desert since the mid-1970's and have observed, photographed and studied hundreds of the unusual and unique plant, mammal, reptile and bird species throughout my extensive travels. I enjoy teaching visitors to the area about this special desert environment and feel that educating people about this beautiful place is the best way to preserve it for future generations to come. If you're interested in finding out about other places to visit and great places to eat after your hike is finished, just let me know and I'd be happy to direct you to any number of fine establishments in the Tucson area. Join me on a 2.5 hour jaunt through the most spectacular desert paradise there is on planet Earth.
