Au programme

We will meet outside Merica hotel where we will start by walking down the memory lane of Nakuru, past the old postal building that leads to Gilianis street where you will have an opportunity to shop for used clothing and also taste the local sugarcane juice, one of its kind. We will also sample local street food such as boiled eggs with kachumbari (you can’t afford to miss this). Then we shall visit Garissa Complex to shop for local fabrics including kitenge, leso, and new men’s and women’s clothing. We will walk though one of the oldest markets (Top market) which has a variety of local fruits, vegetables, fish, chicken, local spices, loose tobacco and perhaps an experience of slaughtering a chicken. We shall walk through the Main Street of Nakuru (Kenyatta Avenue) to Maasai market where you can shop for local sculptures, sandals with beads, local paintings and souvenirs that will remind you of Nakuru. You can also mix your own perfume. For lunch we will go to a mouth watering Nyama Choma for a selection of grilled meats, ugali and local vegetables. We will finally return to Mercia hotel where we will end our tour.

Aboko

I have lived in Nakuru for over 30 years where my family has a farm. My passion for interacting with people landed me a job as a presenter with a local radio which exposed me to the best local shopping and dining experiences in Nakuru. I have given my family from Australia a mesmerizing experience of Nakuru second to none and their feedback has pushed me to share the same local experiences with the rest of the world.
