Au programme

Join me on a walking tour of Strasbourg! We’ll talk about its origins as a Roman camp, the moments of glory as a free imperial city of the Holy Roman Germanic Empire, its millenary cathedral, Strasbourg and the events of the French Revolution and how the Marseillaise was written down in this city (yeah, weird, right?) and we will visit the canals of the Petite France. But I want to offer you something else (and that no one else will), as a lover of History, I’m passionate concerning stories of WW2, so we will have a conversation regarding Strasbourg during its darker years, from its bombing in 1870 by the Prussian troops, the return into France after the First World War and the life of the town throughout the Second World War. We will talk about the Nazi occupation of Strasbourg, from the life experiences of Anne-Marie, my girlfriend's grandmother (she is still alive and is happy that I'm sharing her life with you!)
We will walk by places that saw their original names changed, like the old Adolf Hitler Platz, the Karl Roos Platz, we will walk outside the former Kommandantur and all that while I tell you about the American bombardments that the city suffered allowing the entrance of the allied forces.
By the way! I'm not a fan of huge groups (Quality over quantity) and if you have a dog: this experience is dog friendly!

I come from Chile, a former law student, former tourist guide in Chile and backpacker who travelled from Ecuador to the Strait of Magellan (passing multiple times through Patagonia) that decided to cross 13,000 km to improve his language skills at the University of Strasbourg.

Highly recommended! Vladimir has a wealth of knowledge about the history of Strasbourg, and a friendly attitude. He was also flexible to accommodate that we arrived in the afternoon instead of the morning, so he did the afternoon tour just for us. He started telling the story of Strasbourg from the era before Christ, all the significant moments until modern times. Concerning 2nd WW and its aftermath, he innovatively combined the history of important people and places with how the war was actually lived by common people (the grandmother of his girlfriend) which was amazing. This tour is the best thing you can do when first arriving in Strasbourg.

We really enjoyed this tour! We had just arrived in the city and of course felt a bit lost... But after the tour with Vladimir we had our marks and knew how to get around and find the spots we like for dinner and drinks and so! Vladimir was very knowledgeable and adapted the tour to our preference! Thank you Vladimir! :)

Great history walk with Vladimir. He presented historical events from an original and digestible angle, even if you don’t have much background on French history. He added many personal anecdotes, telling stories about his girlfriend’s grandma who grew up in Alsace during WW2, which really enhanced the experience. Additionally, we saw all the major sites of Strasbourg in our 2 hour walk. He was happy to recommend restaurants and Alsatian dishes and offered to take pictures of us during the walk. Overall great experience! Just make sure you’re really interested in the history, because 2 hours can be long. And bring an umbrella just in case!
