Au programme

This is a very flexible itinerary. For instance if you are interested in something particular - film and TV (Harry Potter, His Dark Materials), architecture, literary greats (Tolkien, CS Lewis), politics (we've produced 28 British Prime Ministers including the last three!), science, religion, or anything else, I can incorporate these themes as we walk round.

Here is a framework:

Meet at the big blue gates of Trinity College in Broad Street.

Introduction to the history of Oxford and the foundation of the University.

The unique Oxford collegiate and University system, the gruelling admissions process, life as a student, famous students. It may be possible to go inside a college, depending on the current state of the coronavirus precautions.

To the University Sheldonian complex for Clarendon Building, Divinity School and Sheldonian Theatre.

To the Bodleian Library.

To Radcliffe Square for the iconic Radcliffe Camera and St Mary's, the most visited church in England. Plus the colleges Brasenose, Exeter and All Souls.

Cross the High Street and down Magpie Lane for a glimpse of a former US president's lodgings.

Into cobbled Merton Street for three more colleges.

Cross over into Turl Street for the unedifying story of women at Oxford.

Back to Broad Street, for the story of the three Oxford Martyrs, and finishing with the sight of an intriguing statue.

I'm a local Oxford guide who went to school and the University here so you can be guaranteed authentic, personal, insider insights and stories into the City and University, or as we call it "Town" and "Gown".

I'm also a fully qualified Green Badge Guide for Oxford, and a member of the Oxford Guild of Guides which means that you will benefit from the knowledge, experience, and skills of a professional.

Oh, and the tours are always friendly, fascinating, and most importantly, fun.

Le lieu

The city centre of Oxford is dense with historic University and College buildings, its streets echoing with the footsteps of famous people who have taught and studied here.

Each location has a tale to tell, including of course my own Jesus College, and many of my stories are by definition personal, authentic accounts of life here as a student at the best and most famous University in the world.

Highly recommend for anyone wanting to discover more about this beautiful city. Iain was incredibly knowledgeable, and tailored the tour based on my particular interests. Iain is very personable, and an expert on all things Oxford and particularly about the University. Definitely saw places, and learned facts, that I would not have been able to experience/learn on my own.

Plus de conseils

The British Government as of June 1st permits groups of up to 6 people from different households meeting in public spaces as long as they observe social distancing rules. This is why this walking tour is limited to 6 persons, the guide and 5 others. Small groups make for much better tours anyway.
