Au programme

Travel to Stonehenge in style with your own Blue Badge Guide. Experience the magic of this famous World Heritage Site, as well as the stone circles of Avebury and the amazing cathedral at Salisbury with the Magna Carta and the tallest church spire in the country.
I will meet you in central Oxford where we will begin our day outside the famous Bodleian Library. I will introduce you to some of the University’s fine buildings, its history and famous people who have studied or taught here. We will then board the minibus, passing through the east of town, taking the scenic route to Stonehenge via the attractive town of Marlborough. After a ride on the shuttle bus we spend just over an hour at the monument itself, learning about its features and and some of the theories surrounding its construction and use, leaving time for a traditional snack at the Visitor Centre afterwards. Then it's a short drive down to Salisbury and a tour of the famous cathedral, including the the Magna Carta exhibition. We head back north to Old Sarum (Old Salisbury) and explore this unique historic site built upon an iron-age hill fort. It's then back towards Oxford, but not before a visit to the fascinating neolithic landscape of Avebury with its enormous stone circles and the enigmatic man-made mound of Silbury Hill.

Based in the beautiful city of Oxford, where I have lived for almost 30 years, I am a Blue Badge Guide for the Heart of England, a region that covers some of the most iconic destinations in the country. The Blue Badge is the UK’s highest guiding qualification. Whilst my training is thorough, my job is also about passion. I enjoy telling my guests about every aspect of a place, its history, architecture, personalities, art, geography; I love the great outdoors, and am just as much at home with industrial heritage as ancient stone circles.
I am a licensed driver-guide with my own minibus, operating from Oxford to destinations all over the region and beyond. I am also a descendant of the Banbury Gullivers, whose graves in St Mary’s churchyard, Banbury, inspired Jonathan Swift to a name for his famous protagonist.
