Au programme

Explore Banbury with your own Blue Badge Guide.

I will meet you in central Oxford where I will introduce some of the University’s fine buildings, its history and famous alumni. We will then board the minibus, passing through the Science Area on the way out of town. Heading north, we arrive in Banbury after 30 minutes or so.

I am a descendant of the Banbury Gullivers, whose graves inspired Jonathan Swift to a name for his famous protagonist, and on the walking tour of Banbury we will see the last remaining tomb.

After parking the minibus near the monument at Banbury Cross (famous for the nursery rhyme), we first visit St Mary's churchyard for the Gulliver tomb. We will then see the High Street, the Market Square and the canal before returning to the minibus via Parson Street. There we stop for a drink and lunch in the famous Ye Olde Reine Deer Inn, a pub which was used by Oliver Cromwell as his headquarters.

We continue by driving a short distance to the lovely village of Hook Norton, where we will take a tour of the Hook Norton Brewery. From there we'll continue to the magical Rollright Stones, a stone circle dating from Neolithic times. It's then back to Oxford via Chipping Norton and Woodstock, with breathtaking views of Blenheim Palace and grounds from just inside the Old Town Gate.

Based in the beautiful city of Oxford, where I have lived for almost 30 years, I am a Blue Badge Guide for the Heart of England, a region that covers some of the most iconic destinations in the country. The Blue Badge is the UK’s highest guiding qualification. Whilst my training is thorough, my job is also about passion. I enjoy telling my guests about every aspect of a place, its history, architecture, personalities, art, geography; I love the great outdoors, and am just as much at home with industrial heritage as ancient stone circles.
I am a licensed driver-guide with my own minibus, operating from Oxford to destinations all over the region and beyond. I am also a descendant of the Banbury Gullivers, whose graves in St Mary’s churchyard, Banbury, inspired Jonathan Swift to a name for his famous protagonist.
