Au programme

Sail beautiful Kailua on a Waʻa Peʻa (Hawaiian Sailing Canoe); a cultural craft designed and used by the Hawaiians to navigate and sail the ocean. Join our watermen, learning about the history and cultural significance of the canoe and Kailua to the Hawaiian and Polynesian people, as we journey to our offshore islets. It's a Hawaiian experience unlike any other!

During the tour, explore the ecosystem as we move through the glistening, clear coral reefs of Kailua with honu (sea turtles) and other native species of fishes. Enjoy the views of the Ko’olau range surrounding us as our watermen tell the mo’olelo (stories) of various Ahupua’a (land divisions) that make up Kailua and the Ka Iwi coastline. View and learn of the indigenous seabirds, such as ‘Iwa (Great Frigate) and ‘Ua‘u kani (Wedge-tail Shearwater), that call the sanctuary island home.

I was raised in an ocean culture family and am an avid surfer, paddler, sailor and fishermen. I've spent time as an ocean lifeguard in Hawaii and California. I hope to share my passions and the culture of Hawai'i that have had such a strong impact on my life.

Tours are run with my team from my business: Kailua Ocean Adventures. We are a small Hawaiian Sailing Canoe and Outrigger Canoe company; born and bred in our hometown of Kailua. We strive to show the cultural and historical side of Hawaiian Canoes, while exploring the waters of our backyard in a safe environment for groups of all levels, keiki to kapuna.

My team consists of professional waterman with backgrounds in ocean safety, firefighting and EMS.

if you are in Honolulu, i would say this is a must do. we signed up for it last minute and wasnt sure how kids friendly it would be. My 3old loved it and part of it was because of our guide. they were great with him. this was first sailing experience for all of us in the family and we all enjoyed sailing. Our guide were 5th gen Hawaiian, very knowledgeable and awesome people. great story telling. recommended places to go. when we got to the island, my son got to learn different shells, enjoyed following crab and dive to the Moana's pool. we took this on the last day of our trip and it was like a cherry on top experience.

at the beginning of the tour i was a bit scared to be honest - we had windy conditions and it was raining a little bit. the waves were bigger than i expected but they said it was just an off day with larger waves. getting to the little islands off the coast was an adventure but super worth it!!!! i felt like real life moana! the tour was great and the guides told great stories. we even saw a bunch of turtles, a monk seal, and baby birds on the island. recommend for any adventurous people!

This experience was beyond expectations. The guide we had was awesome and gave us details about the islands and the area around us. When we got to the island he helped my daughter find shells and told her what each shell was. He took pictures for everyone and his wife was absolutely amazing and personable. I will definitely be doingthis again.

Amazing experience! Our guides were extremely knowledgeable and it was an absolute privilege to have them as teachers. The boat ride was a blast and we even got an hour to explore the islet and hear about the flora, fauna, and history. The boat ride itself was less strenuous than we expected - the wind did most of the work :)

This was a fantastic experience and a definite highlight of our trip! Kawelo (sp?) and Carrie were amazing hosts: extremely knowledgeable, patient, good-natured, and friendly. They made it even more fun and informative than it would've been otherwise - and that's saying a lot! We got to paddle and sail over gorgeous waters, do a lovely hike on one of the Mokulua islands to more beautiful vistas, and plunge in the Queen's Bath on the island. Can't recommend this experience highly enough!
