We’ll start with the history of sourdough and the theory behind how it works.
I’ll show you the sourdough starters we use in the bakery and you will see how they look and smell at different stages of the fermentation process.
Following our step by step instructions you will create your own sourdough starter at home. All you need is a small container and some flour and water.
We’ll then talk you through the sourdough cycle and how not to look after your sourdough.
It will take a few days for your starter to be ready to make bread but we will jump ahead in the process and show you what it will look like and how to prepare your dough and then bake it using the recipe we provide.

I have hosted hundreds of experiences, people and bread making workshops using Sourdough methods over this time. I am passionate about the history and health benefits associated with sourdough bread as well as the quality of the ingredients. I have just started operating a traditional stone grinding water mill in the North England to produce the finest local flour. I am knowledgeable in all aspects of the sourdough bread making process.

The experience is incredible. They really transport you to the bakery and I learned a lot! I got my starter started and I'm excited to bake my first ever loaf of bread :)

Very nice experience on making sourdough. It was good to be able to ask questions to the experts. We got a nice overview of sourdough and the recipes we got look quite simple to do. It would have been nice to have more activities to do on the call on top of making the starter. I’m not sure how this would be possible with the nature of sourdough! Perhaps they could do one for people with an existing sourdough starter?

Hi Debra, thank you for your sourdough experience. I recalled my passion for baking breads after the experience. I used to bake breads everyday with wild yeast, but little by little I started buying breads from bakeries and I haven’t made any breads for the past decade. I’ll try to make one in this weekend.
