Ce que vous allez faire

Relax. This is the Blue Mountains. We're at the Lake. You'll sit in the front of my open canoe, a vessel used by ancient peoples for millennia, holding one of my hand-made timber paddles. You're now ready to explore the beauty and secrets of Wentworth Falls Lake. Dawn and dusk are the best times to explore this small jewel. The Lake is a relict of the steam-train era, & results from the damming of the spring-fed Jamison Creek, where Charles Darwin walked during his 1836 visit to Australia. This is a personal tour for singles or couples. We go as fast or slow as you like. I can show you a hanging swamp--unique to the Blue Mountains. If you're a bird-watcher, book an early morning paddle and bring your binoculars to watch honeyeaters darting between banksias. If the water is calm, we might spot a turtle. Bring your camera to capture the sights that most locals only see from the parkland shore. Budding canoeists will enjoy learning paddling techniques used by traditional peoples. Or perhaps you'd like a relaxing chance to just float quietly while I'll paddle--it's up to you! Let me know your particular focus for our paddling trip, and I will tailor it accordingly.

I am a former environmental science lecturer and an avid whitewater canoeist. I have designed & built my own eco-home in the Blue Mountains, where I raise my two teens and dabble with wood-work, like canoe paddles, in my spare time. "Everyone must believe in something. I believe I'll go canoeing." Henry David Thoreau

Le lieu

Wentworth Fall Lake, near the train station, is a small jewel of the Blue Mountains. It's a former water supply for steam trains and now it's a village park and nature reserve. Young children play in the park on one side, while the other half is indigenous bushland with a variety of native flora & fauna. Eastern Long-necked Turtles and Redfin inhabit the spring-fed waters. On calm mornings, the steely waters mirror the rising sun.
