Au programme

Hike Mt. Inari, discover hidden bamboo and ancient shrines.

Don’t get caught standing in a crowd of tourists trying to get a good photo.

We provide a personal hiking experience. This is the ONLY tour at Fushimi Inari which goes off paved paths, onto actual forest trails. We know of hidden bamboo groves and beautiful evergreens around Fushimi Inari Shrine. Local trails lead us to the main shrine with thousands of red torii gates, and we know of secluded trails that lead to old and hidden alters.

We will begin at Tofukuji Station and wander into a quiet neighborhood, visiting small shrines on the way to the mountain. Then take a trail to see a wonderful bamboo grove, and connect to the main path filled with the famous vermilion torii gates.
We will reach the summit of the mountain, which is covered in the shrine alters and then venture back down the mountain on a forested trail, visiting smaller shrines on the way to another bamboo grove. This will lead us to the most famous area of Fushimi Inari, perfect for a memorable photo.
We will finish at the main shrine at the base of the mountain, where you can enjoy some local street food before you continue your adventure in the wonderful city of Kyoto.

Please understand that this is a hike, not a normal walk, so it will require some effort. We will not recommend joining if you have trouble walking or not in a good condition.

We moved to Kyoto from America, and are both huge history buffs. I studied ancient cultures and religions while attending university, so being able to live at the base of such a sacred mountain means the world to me!
We want to be able to show our guests the most incredible bamboo groves and shrines in Kyoto. Let us take you on an adventure and give you some insight into shintoism, and the importance of this wonderful mountain!

We now have co-hosts to manage and offer this tour more often for travelers to enjoy! We, or one of them will be your guide!

■ I also offer the Kyoto's local food tasting experience at night. We will take you to 3 of our favorite restaurants in Kyoto.

Le lieu

Fushimi Inari Shrine (from hidden trails). This is Japan’s most famous shrine, known for the tens of thousands of red torii gates. We live at the base of the mountain and know all the hidden trails to avoid crowds as much as possible. We will also see beautiful bamboo groves where few people venture. At the end of the hike we will venture into the main entrance of the mountain and enjoy incredible street food.

Great experience! Yoko was a great guide, who knew a lot about the shrines and history, learned so much. Other than that, we took a nice route where there were no tourist at all.

This was a great way to see Fushimi Inari. It poured down rain, but we still had a ton of fun! We were able to see so much more than we could have on foot!

What an excellent tour! We were the only two people on the tour - our guide, Yoko, was amazing and a great storyteller. She knew so much about Japanese folklore and we loved hearing stories about all the different Kami-sama. She showed us the proper way to pray at the shrines and throughout the tour, we made several stops for snacks (miso and matcha ice cream from Hana Ice and delicious boiled eggs with hot tea). The hidden Shinto shrine and the beautiful bamboo forest at the beginning of the hike were awesome to behold and we got many great pictures. A tip for the hike- good, grippy, water-resistant shoes are a must!

Oh my, if you want to see the culture and sites of Japan but panic about squishing past many other tourists, this tour is a must! Yoko our guide was so much fun, informative and we loved the hike which essentially brought us backwards up the mountain going off on hidden trails with not seeing one other person in sight besides my husband, myself and our guide ! Yoko's knowledge and kindness as she described the importance , history and traditions surrounding the shrines was mesmerizing. No question we asked her was ever too crazy for her willingness to answer! Seeing bamboo and cedar forest up close with no barrier was unforgettable.

The trek was amazing, the trail was tourist free so the experience felt personal not to mention it also allowed us to take photos without having to wait our turn or have people in the background. Dakota was very welcoming, spoke very good English and really knew her stuff. Highly recommended!

I had a very nice tour with Akiko, she took the time to do the tour for me alone and she showed me many of the important sites and had a lot of background information.
