Au programme
Haul up the sails! Take the tiller! Or just chill out with a Rum Punch or Deacon Stormy while our historic schooner slides through Salem Sound past lighthouses, forts, and waterfront homes. The captain and crew will explain the significance of the FAME, privateering, and the War of 1812. The firing of the cannon is always a highlight!
We'll motor out from Pickering Wharf Marina in downtown Salem and then call for volunteers to help raise the sails. Once the sails are up, depending on the wind, we may shape a course toward Beverly... or Marblehead... or head straight out toward the islands!
Our interactive crew point out landmarks, explain the operation of the schooner, and mix drinks with equal facility!
The sails last an hour and forty minutes. When we return to Pickering Wharf, you're right in the heart of downtown Salem — perfectly placed for a meal, a drink, or a stroll!
Other things to note
We will not sail if steady rain, high winds, or thick fog are expected. Call ahead if you are unsure about the weather. Dress for whatever the weather offers — you are exposed to the elements on our 1812 schooner! This is not a cruise ship or passenger ferry!

I've been sailing for 40 years now, was hands-on with the building of our traditional wooden schooner in 2003, and recently spent three winters cruising the Eastern Caribbean. When I'm working, I'm sailing... and when I'm playing, I'm sailing! I am equally passionate about history, having minored in history at Penn and later written two books about privateering and the War of 1812. I've presented at nearly one hundred events, symposiums, and conferences. Recently, I was named Chair of Salem's Port Authority, tasked with remaking Salem's waterfront for the next century.

Le lieu
We'll be sailing on the historic waters of Salem Sound. Every trip is different, since we shape our course to take advantage of the wind that day. Sometimes we sail toward Beverly... sometimes toward Marblehead... sometimes straight out toward the islands!

This sailing is a must-do and a great way to top off your Salem visit. Mike and his crew were welcoming and did a great job explaining the maritime history of Salem and features of the boat while having fun. We got to help raise the sails too! Don’t miss this scenic tour!

I had such an AWESOME time throughout the entire sailboat experience! I felt that each group was separated more than enough for me to not worry about covid. I loved that they had yummy margaritas and my boyfriend enjoyed their dark and stormy drink (they even have some snacks for the people who may be hangry). Michael set off a cannon and then shared some awesome facts with us about 1812... so cool!!! My favorite part of the entire experience was the adorable, smiley, mermaid we saw!! YES MERMAID! Such a sweet ending to the ride. Thank you guys for making us feel so welcomed!
