Au programme

About 2hours tour on foot.
Originally this area was South edge of Osaka castle in 15DC So you can find some relics of castle moat without water. This area, KARAHORI is named after moat without water(KARA=empty, HORI=moat). Now a day there still remain many off the beaten path, like maze and many Machiya(mercantile houses). On the off the beaten path, you can find tiny shrines, well, stone wall build in 15DC. Visiting each shrine is one of this tour topic because each shrine has different genius symbol, e.g. foxes, mirror. Talking about mercantile houses, some are still have habitats but some are remodeled into cafe/cute shops. Charming cafe/shop suddenly appear between old mercantile houses. There are various cute shops, cozy cafes or yummy restaurants and cheep kimono shop, etc, etc. You can enjoy not only sightseeing but also shopping, eating.
If you want to take rest, I will guide you to these cafe and restaurants(you need pay your meal expense). 한국어도 합니다.
*One notes :Pls. do NOT disturb inhabits during hidden paths walking. Granpa and granma still live in Machiya(mercantile houses).

Hi! I’m Chieko:-D I live in this area over 25 years and love here. And I'm a member of Karahori community map editions voluntary group. I offer community trip as map editions group. So I know all highlights in here and can guide you on off the beaten paths that are not on guidebook. Off the beaten paths are like maze and unique. Some are open for tourists, some are private but no indications. I know all paths that we can walk thought there are not indications. And there are many MACHIYA( old mercantile houses) remained from 15DC. Some old houses have been renovated into cafe/shop. Almost of all shop masters are my friends, they may recommend you something special in their shops. Let's enjoy together.

This was a wonderful little tour which lived up to its promise The tea ceremony with Mr Miyashita was a highlight and we felt very privileged to have partaken. It would probably be better undertaken in daylight but we had committed to another tour that morning. Chieko was a thoughtful host providing water and sweets for us and a map of places visited and even walked us back to the metro station to see us safely on our way. Many thanks🇯🇵🇯🇵🇯🇵🇯🇵🇯🇵

Really great local experience. Chieko is personable, friendly, and knowledgeable about this cozy area, Karahori. After walking hidden alleys and visiting various shops with Chieko, I could confirm that Karahori (this area) is a place to visit especially for people who wish to see an authentic Japanese good old living. We had chances to buy small gifts to bring back too. The extra touch of learning about Osaka castle is also a bonus. I truly enjoyed her hospitality! If you are looking for an experience that has a personal touch to it, you can't miss this!

It was great seeing Osaka through Chieko’s perspective. I learned some history and she took us to some quaint shops—great for souvenir shopping. Chieko and her friend were very helpful in helping me find some Japanese seasonings to bring home. She also kindly guided me to my next destination.

We had a lovely time around the area that we would not have been able to experience on our own. Chieko gave us an introduction to the area, its special little local shops and glimpses into the history of her neighborhood.

Thanks, it was a wonderful experience. A neighborhood really close to where I'm staying and yet really unknown to me. I'll certainly go back to some of the stores and places during my trip.
