Au programme

We will go on an easy snowshoeing tour to the Zinkenstüberl in Hallein.
First I will show you the very easy technique to walk with the snowshoes and we will try it in different snowy situations along the way. Depending on the snow conditions we can slide, run and tumble in the snow.
We will first hike uphill for about 1 hour to the hidden peak of the Zinken. Only locals know the way and most of the time we will be alone at the cross on the summit.
Afterwards we'll hike for about 10 minutes to the Zinkenstüberl where a hot chocolate will be your reward - and believe me, it will taste fabulous :-)
When you are ready we will hike down to our starting point.

Additional information: the tour takes place 15km outside of Salzburg - please plan 30min by car and about 60min with public transportation to get to the meeting point!

Grown and raised in Salzburg, I know the mountains almost by heart. I'm a hiking and snowshoe hiking guide since more than 5 years and I'm member of the local mountain rescue team.
I'm a happy motivated girl and people say I'm the "sunshine" even on rainy days.
I love to show guests the beauty of the nature and mountains in and around Salzburg and provide an extraordinary experience based on your skills.

Le lieu

We will start on the German side of the Zinken and hike up to Austria again. The cross on the summit is on the Austrian side as well as the Zinkenstüberl where we will have the hot chocolate.
We are in the middle of a skiing area but the path we are taking is closed for skiers and the trail to the peak is only known by local people - so we will hike apart from the masses and enjoy the silence of the snowy mountain and forest.

The night before our trip we were worried there wouldn't be any snow, but overnight Salzburg transformed into a wintery wonderland. Renate made sure we were in constant contact leading up to the day of the trip to help coordinate transportation and monitor the weather. We took a bus from the altstadt in Salzburg to Hallein where Renate was waiting to pick us up and drive us to the mountains. She was exceedingly warm and friendly and helped us through getting our showshoes on while getting to know us. We then proceeded up paths laden with new fallen snow and surrounded by beautiful towering trees all while learning about Austria and Renate's work with mountain rescue. Fascinating, beautiful, and otherwordly. The hike was not too strenuous, if you're reasonably in shape and we were well warmed through despite it snowing the entire time. We even got to make snow angels! At the top we had the small cabin/restaurant to ourselves and had some wonderful hot chocolate and an Austrian bready doughnut with jam/marmalade. The entire experience was wonderful and we would highly recommend it. The only thing that could have made it better is if we could have met Renate's dogs in person.

Brilliant experience. Really recommend for anyone wanting to have a half-day trip from Salzburg. Renate was a great host who has experience on what she does and will make everyone feel comfortable even if youve never done it before. She will always be up for a chat and will leave everyone feeling talkative and smiling.

The snowshoe hiking is a wonderful experience. The host is extremely thoughtful that she kept informing us the weather till the very last day before our hike. She also provided professional advice on our choosing of garment for the activity. Extremely helpful. The place was wonderful during Christmas with a snowy white background and tall pine trees covered in snow during my time. Host was friendly and engaging during the whole trip. She was funny and knowledgeable at the same time. The hot chocolate at last was simply amazing after the long walk. Personal speaking, if you are not familiar with activities in snow and cold winter, you should seek advice from host for your preparation. She gave us a lot of help on that.

Renate was spectacular! She set expectations early and continued to be flexible as my plans changed. She was so fun, friendly and encouraging. I wanted to challenge myself (fitness level) and she offered an easier or more strenuous option. I chose the more difficult path and she was my cheerleader the whole way - we went at my pace :) I loved hearing the passion and love Renate has for her work. Very inspiring.

Renate is very passionate and made us feel very comfortable. She bought us to hike from the Germany side and back to Austria which is really interesting. We had a good time but due to the bad weather we didn’t get to snowshoes. She is reliable and ensured safety. Highly recommended to try if you are in Salzburg.
