Au programme

Alpacas take to trekking quite easily. They walk in a line, one behind the other on a head collar and lead rope. Our guided treks start at the alpacas' barn and ascend into the forest. Each trek lasts about 1.5 hours, with a spinning and fibre demonstration afterwards. The walk itself is at a very leisurely pace, and is not at all strenuous.

When you arrive on site, the alpacas will be grazing, and we will call them in using their yellow food bucket! Simon and I will introduce you to the alpacas whist getting them ready with head collars and leads. We will have a brief health & safety chat, as well as give you some idea of what to expect and some pointers so you can interact with your alpaca. We will also introduce you to all of their individual quirks and personalities.

Alpacas are not able to carry packs or people, so they will accompany us as we walk the forest trail. We try not to let them stop to nibble grass for long periods. Half-way around the walk, we release the alpacas in an enclosed area, so we can feed them treats, and you can get very close and intimate with them. They will love you when we give you the apples to feed them. There will be plenty of photo opportunities throughout your visit. When we arrive back at the farm, I will give you a spinning demonstration, and show you different luxury fibres from around the world. Simon will be making you tea and coffee!

Simon and I adopted our first two Alpacas over ten years ago. It didn't take long to succumb to the addiction and our herd increased from two to four. Then to no one's surprise, four became six and so on until we reached 12. It is kind of like goldfish in a bowl, alpaca numbers grow to the size of the land you can have. You have to watch out though, before you know it you start looking for more land. We now have 17!

I am fortunate to have had an extensive background working with all kinds of fibre. I also teach spinning and knitting in our workshop at the farm. When we lived in England, we owned and operated a Mini Mill next to our knitting and knitwear shop called "The Naked Sheep".

This was a truly magical experience. Mia and Simon cared so much for the Alpacas and have us an excellent briefing to start. We got to spend precious time with those wonderful creatures in an ‘other-worldly’ setting. Truly unique. Fantastic expert, caring and thoughtful hosts. Highly recommend.

Great experience! Being able to walk Pluto, one of the alpacas, was great! Mia and her husband gave us helpful information about alpacas, and guided us through a beautiful forest. We got to pet them, walk them, take pictures, feed them... And at the end we got to know a bit about knitting and even have tea and coffee in a relaxed setting.

Wow Mia and Simon were so amazing with the alpacas! They had great knowledge of the alpacas and the personality of each alpaca. They gave a great safety demonstration and the forest walk was really beautiful. Mia took us to her studio after and showed us what she makes out of alpaca wool. They also gave us some lovely tea and coffee. The whole thing took about 3 hours so was really great value. Would definitely do it again :)

Myself, my wife and two sons recently visited The Naked Sheep for their Alpaca Forest Trek. The experience was truly amazing, from beginning to end! Our youngest son is alpaca-mad, so this was a surprise for him. We arrived at the location without telling the kids what we were about to do. When they saw the sign, there was such excitement in the car! (I must admit though, we were all super-excited with this opportunity!). The location is in an amazing part of Kerry, with fantastic views. Mia and Simon (our experience-hosts) were very welcoming and warm. They took a lot of time to ensure that we all knew the health and safety aspects before we started our trek. I really liked that they matched their alpacas to each of us, based on the personalities involved... needless to say, our youngest boy fell in love with his alpaca, Cappuccino. The alpacas are really beautiful animals, and you can see that they are cared-for and loved. I won't ruin the experience for others by giving too many details, but let's just say that it was fantastic fun, and we got to walk through an amazing forest, with our alpaca friends. We had tons of opportunities to take alpaca-selfies and some video, and we even got to cuddle and feed them. Tour numbers are small, so you have tons of time to ask questions and to get to know all about these lovely animals. We shared our tour with a lovely young couple, so there were 6 of us in total. Everyone had a blast! At the end of each holiday, I ask every member of the family for their Top 3 highlights of the trip... every single one of us had this experience as our No. 1 on our list! That says it all really! Thank you Mia, Simon, Monkey, Pluto, Herbie and, of course, Cappuccino! Wishing you continued success in everything you do! Rob & Family.

This experience exceeded my expectations. The alpacas are so adorable and well cared for, each with their own personality and stories. The location of the trek is stunning, with gorgeous views. Mia and Simon were so welcoming and they obviously love what they do. I felt at ease and super relaxed with the animals. We had lots of opportunities to feed them, take photos and learn about them. Mia showed us how to create yarn from their wool and the different methods of spinning. If you are down this side of the country I would definitely recommend adding this experience to your itinerary! Next time I’ll definitely be trying to book a night in the lodge.
