Ce que vous allez faire
You most likely did not travel to Cuba for the food, but there is nothing like enjoying a traditional homecooked meal in a cuban household as if you were a part of the family! Join us to shop, cook and eat like a local! We will cook a typical cuban meal together, while getting the chance to talk and learn about the culture and everyday life in Cuba. This is not a typical cooking class, but an unique way of meeting, learning and engaging with people outside of the busy tourist places. We invite you to experience the cuban day by day, starting with the way we "hunt" for ingredients. In Cuba, grocery shopping requires patience, determination and lots of time. But luckily we always have fresh organic fruits and vegetables close - and that is where this experience starts: 1. We walk from the meeting point to a small local "agromercado" where we will buy some of the ingredients for our dinner. 2. Walking home (5 min), my aunt will be waiting and serve homemade organic fruit and juice. 3. Guests start to prepare the fresh ingredients and join our cooking process. 4. When we finish cooking, everyone gathers around the table for a nice family meal

I am born and raised in Havana and have lived all my 26 years here with my family. Growing up with my mother and aunt, cooking together has always been an important part of the day. Everything from sourcing the ingredients, to helping in the kitchen, to finally sharing a family meal around the table. Even in hard times with less, we always prioritized this and that's where my passion for food comes from. Now, I would like to invite you to my family's home for an unique cooking experience - to learn about the traditional cuban cuisine, but also to experience the warmth of the cuban family and share a glimpse of how the everyday life is like in Cuba. I have been working in the tourism industry for some years and love to show my guests the real Cuba, beyond the guide books. Follow me on Facebook and IG @cuba_discovered for travel tips!

Before we start cooking, we will meet outside the apartment in Centro Havana. This part of the city is overlooked by most visitors, but it's here you will get to see the real everyday life, with it's own charm and mesmerizing streetlife. From here we walk to a local market nearby, where we buy our ingredients. Then we continue and walk back home to our small, cozy apartment in San Miguel where my aunt will welcome us.
