‘Amazigh Berber Cultural Day’ - An immersive day spent in the High Atlas Mountains in the traditional Berber villages of Tansghart & Tamgounssi. Nestled in the High Atlas mountains, 1300 metres above sea level, these peaceful villages are tucked away from the regular tourist routes. 8.30am Guests collected from central Marrakech & taken into the mountains, stopping en route at Tahanaout local food market for the ingredients for a Berber lunch. 10.30am Arrive at Tamgounssi, meet local women and teachers from our craftcentres, learn how to make local bread ‘khobz’ in traditional clay ovens, pick herbs for a Berber mint tea ritual, collect wood, then enjoy a traditional tagine cookery lesson. 12pm Short journey to Tansghart, one of the oldest Berber villages with spectacular views, to enjoy lunch served community style at our craft centre. 2pm Take part in wood-carving, weaving or rug-making on a traditional loom with our artisans. 3.30pm Unwind with Moroccan mint tea & traditional pastries, whilst chatting to locals with Zoubair. 4pm Return to Marrakech!
Zoubair has been with the Eve Branson Foundation (EBF) since its beginnings and has hosted tours in the Atlas Mountains for over 10 years. A Berber himself, Zoubair grew up in rural Morocco and knows the region inside out. He is the eldest of eight brothers and sisters and is fluent in four languages; Modern Standard Arabic, Moroccan Berber, French and English. “Working for Eve and the Eve Branson Foundation is the most important experience I have ever had. The mission of the Eve Branson Foundation is to enrich the lives of people in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco. We achieve this through the provision of craft centres where young people can access training programmes to learn traditional skills such as woodworking, tailoring, weaving & rug-making. We support community projects such as building a football ground or setting up a free dental clinic.
