Au programme

Meet your host in central Chengdu, and delve into the Wide and Narrow Allleys to discover the city’s culinary scene. Come hungry: food & drinks including a hotpot, plus unlimited beer and sodas are included.

The heart of old Chengdu, the Wide and Narrow alleyways and courtyards are lined with Ming- and Qing-era buildings and teahouses, many converted into shops, restaurants, and food outlets. Absorb the historical atmosphere and architecture, and visit a beautiful courtyard to sample local tea and traditional snacks. Admire the ornate teahouse as you learn about tea-drinking etiquette before stopping to sample local street snacks.

Delve into a bustling wet market and peruse the wares as you learn about the spices and ingredients of Sichuan cuisine and its staple dish of hotpot. Then, visit a restaurant to savor an authentic hotspot served in true Chengdu style: dipping assorted meats, vegetables, and other delicacies into bowls of two types of hot broth. Don’t worry about what to order and how — your host will provide tips.

After your hotpot, retire to a boutique bar for a locally brewed fruit wine before saying goodbye to your host.

Le lieu

Most of the places that we visit on the tour are small family-run eateries that are open for a long time and frequented by locals. We visit the same eateries every evening on the tour so we know that the food is safe and consistent in quality. This experience also includes a visit to a beautiful courtyard tea house and a bustling wet market. The bar that we visit at the end of the tour is family friendly.

This was such a great experience to make new friends both with the small group and with our guide Bo! Many shy away from a hot pot experience, but I would 100% recommend trying hotpot! Don’t worry they take care of you so don’t be afraid of the heat or the ingredients. We also tried many other great local dishes both sweet, Savory and odd!

Awesome experience and we had such a great time! I stayed in Chengdu for a few days and already had some hot pot, but nothing compared to this one! Our guide Bo is very knowledgeable about local food and told us the correct way to eat Chengdu hot pot. We tried a lot of dishes that we wouldn't normally order, such as brain and beef belly, the beef belly was really good! Bo also provided us a lot of good travel advice, if you’re in Chengdu, this tour is a must.

This was my first time ever having hotpot and I loved it! I’m so glad I tried it during a tour because the guide told us what to do, how to cook everything, and recommended what to try. Our guide, Bo, was so great, really funny, and knew a lot about Chengdu! The highlight of the tour was walking around the market which was a great way to experience the local culture and see all kinds of fun stuff. I highly recommend this tour for a fun time that will leave you full!

I highly recommend this tour! Bo is a great source of information and entertainer. he took us (group of 4) on a journey through Sichuan's tea, spices, market and other (now not so mysterious) Chengdu Street food. The hotpot in the end was amazing, finally learning all important tricks about it.

My husband and I have been to China several times, but find it hard to figure our where to eat and get authentic food as we don't speak fluent Mandarin. We decided to take the hot pot tour to get authentic Hot Pot. We first met for tea outside. The barley tea was delicious and accompanied by various Chinese snacks along with the history of the snacks. Our guide Chino spoke great English and was worldly, having lived around the world in his former occupation, so had a good perspective of the world. The tour of the market was interesting. Then, of course there was the Hot Pot. We came to truly appreciate the significance of Hot Pot, the flavors, and how to eat it at a small open air restaurant we never would have even noticed had we been on our own. Chino knew just what to order, including Pig Aorta (an acquired taste). Conversation at dinner was great. When we got home to America a couple weeks later, we realized we left our car keys in the hotel safe in Chengdu and the hotel wouldn't send them (weird regulatory issues with what can be mailed... don't ask). Chino had been so friendly, I felt comfortable asking him for a favor. He fetched them from the hotel for us, jumped through regulatory hoops to fed ex them, and I'm going to pick them up today. He rocks! He went above and beyond. Thanks again.
