Au programme

The focus of the day will be watching a match of Australian Rules Football (or footy) together, but there's a lot more to it than simply catching a game.

We'll start by meeting near a local park or oval and I'll introduce you to the most important part of Australian football, the ball itself. We'll go through a basic skills session, I'll teach you how to kick, handball and mark the oval shaped ball. The idea here is to both have fun and get an appreciation for what's going to be happening out on the field later. We'll also discuss some of the history and significance of the sport.

We'll then head over to the ground and get settled in for an afternoon of football. I'll provide you with a simple sheet explaining the main rules and we'll go through some of the finer points of the game and introduce you to the teams for that day.

Then the match starts and it's all action for the next 2-3 hours. During the the game I'll be available to answer any questions so you're not left scratching your head over a deliberate rushed behind or marking infringement.

By the end of the day you'll be an expert on the best sport on earth!

PLEASE NOTE:
As the AFL season does not begin until late March, current bookings are for AFLW matches (the women's competition). These games are shorter but still exciting and have free entry, so the price has been lowered to reflect this.

My love for Australian Rules Football started as a three year old when my dad started taking me along to games and the sport has been a huge part of my life ever since.

Like most Melburnians my story starts as a fan, going to games at the MCG. When I was old enough I started playing and over the last ten years have played for various local clubs, school and representative teams and I also spent a few years working as an umpire in a local league.

On top of that, I've worked as a tour guide in Melbourne for the last year and a half, so this is a combination of my two passions!

It was a great experience!! If you want to understand about Australian Footbal and enjoy watching a game, you have to try this!! Before the game Andreas teach us the rules and how to play footy, and during the game he helps us understand the match. Also he know a lot about the history of the sport.

Before this experience neither me or my wife had any kind of knowledge, and Andreas was really patient explaining to us all the rules, the history behind the sport and teaching us how to do proper plays. Later on, when we were already at the stadium watching the game every time we had some question about the game, or a doubt about any thing that happened he promptly answer all our questions. It was not only helpful, but his dedication really helped us got hook on the game. Now I can´t wait to go to my next game.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. In fact, if Aussie Rules Football has seemed like No Rules Football to you (like it has to me, previously) I would not recommend going to a game without first taking Andreas' experience. I was a little concerned at first about the time frame, 5 hours seemed like a long time, but once I arrive we got into learning and practicing the skills right away and I would have done that even longer. Highly personable and a great teacher, Andreas demystified the game for me and made it a ton of fun. From kicking a ball in the park to eating meat pies in the stands, a true Melbourne experience that was a highlight of my few days here. A Melbourne must-do.
