    Short-term rental regulations

    On September 16, 2017, Law 6/2017, of July 31, on the modification of Law 8/2012, of July 19, on tourism in the Balearic Islands came into force, relating to the commercialization of tourist stays in households.

    The law introduces important novelties in the legal regime of commercialization of tourist stays in homes. Check the regulations for tourist accommodations.

    Tourist stays

    In addition to Law 6/2017 approved by the Balearic Parliament, the Government of the Balearic Islands approved Decree 20/2015 of 17 April on general principles and guidelines for coordination in tourism; of regulation of advisory bodies, coordination and cooperation of the Government of the Balearic Islands, and regulation and classification of companies and tourist establishments, issued in development of Law 8/2012, of July 19, on Tourism the Balearic Islands.

    Declaration and registration

    The applicable regulations require that prior to the start of the activity, any person who wants to provide the tourist stay in housing service makes a responsible declaration and obtains a registration number in the General Register of Companies, Activities and Tourist Establishments of the corresponding Insular Council.
