I have always been interested in gardening. When my three children were growing up, I lived on Waiheke Island in Auckland's Hauraki Gulf where we kept chickens, rabbits and had a sheep and pigeons, an orchard and a garden on half an acre.
I moved to Dunedin in 2001 for my younger children's tertiary education and because, as I got older, I wanted a smaller piece of land to look after. Now I have a modest, suburban house five minutes from the city center on a 640 sq m section and grow more flowers than vegies. I also enjoy reading, art, music, sewing, chess, and swimming at the nearby Moana Pool.
Now, retired, with an 'empty nest', I enjoy hosting visitors from all round the world - as well as my fellow New Zealanders.
I like simple, natural food, to get a bit of exercise every day and to live quietly and mindfully. Guests who value a peaceful environment are a good match. (Website hidden by Airbnb) My home doesn't look like a hotel or a luxury apartment and my prices reflect that. The house was built in the 1970s and is typical of its era (spacious, solidly built and low maintenance.) It hasn't had an update and the kitchen and bathroom particularly reflect this. See photos. But it has all the qualities that I value, like spaciousness, warmth, quiet, good order and a feeling (to me, at least) of peacefulness and security.
I enjoy providing guests with a 'home away from home.'
COVID
I am double vaccinated and follow AirBnB's cleaning, disinfecting and distancing protocols carefully. You can get plenty of fresh air here. You can ventilate your room well by opening the window and door and putting the air conditioning (heat pump) in your room on Fan Only/High. I air the house regularly - easy to do when you live on a windy hillside. If I open both the front and back doors, usually there's some kind of air movement blowing right through.
