You will adore this peaceful home. It's comfy, relaxing & centric. To YOU reading this now:¡GRACIAS! for considering Puerto Rico as your vacation destination. Hurricanes, economic crises, quakes, COVID and now disaster capitalism has shaken us up. But still, our BEST remains: our warm Boricua PEOPLE, our MUSIC, and our BEACHES! It will take hard work to recover to be what we were before Sept 20,' 17. But with continuous visits from guests like you, we will recover even more promptly. Thanks-Yoa

Le logement
This home is a gem! I purchased the house in 2005, because of the neighborhood and it's location. It was a ruin of a house built in the ~1920's and it was not until Jan of 2012 that we began with the total restoration and renovation which has included a custom designed opened kitchen, new doors, windows, walls, floors. The home is warmly decorated with items from my international travels like the floor mosaics made with coins from different countries and with keys from previous residences. This makes the house unique as well as it's 12 feet high ceilings, cross ventilation and sunlight in the space. Please do note that the stairs that lead up to the second floor are steeper than usual stairs. (See pictures for reference)

Casa Estrella comfortably fits 6 people, but could fit up to 10 max.

We invite you to browse thru all of the showcased pictures so you get acquainted with the space.

Let me help paint a picture of sleeping accommodations: the bedrooms all have a/c and a window in two of the walls of the rooms for maximum sunlight and cross-ventilation. First, the master bedroom (Sunrise) has a King size bed, night tables, ceiling fan and a/c, then the second room on the second floor (Sunset) has a full/double size bed, night tables, ceiling fan and a/c, then finally the guest bedroom on the first floor (Sunshine) which has 2 twin beds that could be joined if desired, a ceiling fan and split unit a/c. Additionally, there is a pull out sofa bed (full/double size) on the 2nd floor with ceiling fan above it. There are two full bathrooms, one on each floor, supplied with soap, tp, among other toiletries and hair dryer. There should be photos that show these areas on the site.

There are 5 living spaces in Casa Estrella: (1) the large spacious front porch with iron table & 4-chairs and two iron rocking chairs; (2) the first floor living room is opened and connected to the open kitchen and dining area; (3) additionally there is the upstairs family living room with a sitting hammock, a working table & chairs, the TV, the pull out sofa bed; (4) also there is a nice breezy balcony on the second floor with a wooden bench, two Adirondack chairs and two locally hand weaved hammocks (this is our favorite space in the house)and; (5) moreover, we have the courtyard patio which is uncovered with a small vintage table with its 4 chairs and available BBQ if desired. Furthermore, there is a lush, still-work-in-progress garden along the side of the home that is accessed thru the gate from the patio.

Interaction with Guests: We are happy to host my guests beyond what lodging entails! I love my island and want everyone to experience it optimally. Please let us know how we can help you not only with your stay in Casa Estrella, but also with your visit to beautiful Puerto Rico. Feel free to call me or text me any time with any questions! I will be happy to provide local insider tips :)
I can also provide airport pick-up, pending my 7-year old's schedule. We may also provide the service of stocking the kitchen with any specifically requested items prior to your arrival.

Casa Estrella is centrally located, with good public transportation. When you visit Puerto Rico, particularly if you want to explore outside of metro area, renting a car is recommended. Now for people that do not prefer to rent a car, or rather stay within the Metro area, there is a public bus stop right on Loiza Street, just half a block away, that for 75 cents (exact change) will take you to any point of interest. There is also taxi transit on Loiza if this is a preferred method of transportation.
You can catch a bus to Isla Verde or to Pinones or to Old San Juan on either Calle Loiza or Calle McLeary. Condado (with casinos and restaurants) and Santurce (with a great new art museum) are both only a 20 minute walk away. If you want to take a taxi into Old San Juan or Isla Verde (instead of the 75 cent bus), the cost is $15, and you can hail a cab on Calle Loiza or walk to the taxi stand in Condado. If you'd like to be near a synagogue, there is one on Calle Loiza, which is a 15-minute walk in the direction of Santurce.
If you rent a car, Casa Estrella has a parkway that fits up to 3 cars (one behind the other) but because is located on a low trafficked street, parking on the street is easy to find.

The house is less than 4 miles away from airport. As you leave the airport or rental car shop, follow signs that will take you West on the #3 (also known as Ave. Baldorioty de Castro), then once on the #3 heading west, follow sign to take the exit that will take you to Calle San Jorge. ("Calle" means street, and on the map it shows sometimes as Cll), you will turn right on Calle San Jorge, heading north. Then at the stop light that follows, turn right on to Calle Loiza, or #37, headed eastward. Then on Calle Loiza you will see it is a commercial street with gas stations, banks, shops, restaurants, on your right, you will first pass Calle Diez de Andino, and the next street on the right, calle Jefferson, you will see a Banco Popular bank, then a locally owned hardware store, Ferreteria Madrid, on the right and on the left you will see Church's & Burger King... turn right on to Calle Jefferson. On your right, you will see a small beauty salon, a vintage boutique, then an apt building, Casa Estrella will be the third house on the right side and has turquoise colored gate. There is an empty lot across the street from Casa Estrella.

It's quite simple, I might have just provided more details than necessary :)

Call me with ANY questions!

We love folks that are meticulously clean as we are! And meticulously clean folks love Casa Estrella! We pride ourselves in the level of cleanliness of the home prior to each arrival.
1) please appreciate the spotlessness of Casa Estrella
2) please take care of the house and its contents

Accès des voyageurs
The guests have access to the entire house, with its two balconies, the back courtyard and side garden. To come in there is first the gate to get into the property, then a gate to get into the 1st floor porch, and finally the front double doors to get inside the house. The only shared space is the carport/parkway as it accesses the small rented studio over the garage. The carport fits up to 3 small cars (one behind the other) but there is almost always plenty of parking available on the street where you can also opt to park.

Autres remarques

Room Tax: We are required by law to collect and pay the local Tourism Department a room tax. Our operation has been assigned a room tax of 7% which Airbnb manages directly outside of their service fees on both host and guest end. They will request the 7% room tax be paid along with reservation via the Airbnb system and they pay the government directly.

Groceries: We offer guests to have the house stocked with groceries of their choice prior to their arrival for cost of groceries+ 15% tip:)

Laundry: Please note laundry is available upon request for a fee. There is a washer and dryer at the house for cleaning home linens, towels, and rugs. Based on unfortunate past experience, it is no longer available for free. We will have to charge a fee of $40. Please advise if interested so that we may make this adjustment to the existing reservation. Be prudent with the use of the machine and care of the home’s linens. Alternatively, there are a few great laundromats walking distance and a coin laundry about 5 blocks away.

Bikes: We could provide rental bikes to guests at a discount, please inquire if interested. They are 2 simple fixie bikes and 2 beach comber bikes. Daily rental Bicycle regular rate is $27, but for Casa Estrella guests the discounted rate is $15

Stairs: The stairs that lead up to the second floor are considered steep by some guests. Please take into account that one of the three bedrooms and one of the bathrooms are on the first floor to accommodate for guests that might have difficulties with going up stairs.

Cig-Buds: We aim to maintain the home and it's surrounding fresh & clean and smoke-free, so please know that cleaning service charges a cigarrette bud fee per each bud found so please, first refrain from smoking in and around the home, and if you have smoked please clean after and remove buds to avoid this fee.

San Juan, Porto Rico

We LOVE this neighborhood for many reasons:
1) it is walking distance from the ocean, right by Ocean Park Beach and Condado

2) it is a quaint neighborhood of humble residents most of which have lived here for decades and some even for generations

3) it is easy to access all main metro areas quickly

4) it is very pedestrian friendly and steps to great variety of restaurants and shops, the post office, the best yoga studio on the island, the pharmacy (both privately owned and national chain), and the BEACH! (the most popular San Juan beach). This neighborhood is located in the popular, eclectic & artsie Calle Loiza, which is like Main Street and has an annual cultural festival: Fiestas de la Calle Loiza.

5) most houses have balconies, which are almost extinct in most neighborhoods. Houses are more outwardly focused, vs internally focused so lends to more interaction with the community.

Staying in this home in this neighborhood will provide visitors with a lot of accessible conveniences, as well as a true San Juan local, down-to-earth experience.

The particular street the home is located in is very quiet and tranquil. Our neighbors are mostly retired folk and young families.

Regarding safety, I would say that it is as safe as any residential neighbor in the metro area. One must take usual measures such as not leaving valuables in the car (at sight even less), not leaving items out and keeping property locked. We have not experienced a single unfortunate safety incident in our home.

We are involved with our neighborhood association of residents to continue giving and actively participating in this community.

Hola! I was born in San Juan, PR, and raised in Washington DC. I am an ex-corporate Marketing/Brand Manager and newly accomplished home renovator. I bought Casa Estrella in 2005 and our family, over the last year and a half, has restored the house as a work of Art and LOVE. The house has a collection of pieces I've gathered from my worldwide travels. The house was previously owned by the first female attorney of Puerto Rico, Estrella Garcia Capella, which is why I have denominated it as Casa Estrella. My husband Daniel is a CPA and together we have a princess daughter who is the heiress of Casa Estrella, Poly. I am passionate about my island and have always been a natural host to visiting friends. I like for guests of the island to see the best and not leave without experiencing certain 'musts'! I feel like I have a good-eye for what a tourist should experience, as I consider myself a world traveler having had visited 35+ countries in 6 continents around the world. While traveling, I enjoy experiencing the true local down-to-earth culture, the food, the natural topography of the countries, and making local friends. I love my husband, my daughter, conversation with my friends, traveling, Casa Estrella, the afternoon sun, sounds of nature, good healthy wholesome food, overall healthy life style, the practice of yoga, strolling with my family, and naturally squeezed juices! I am a mother, wife, flexitarian, responsible and productive member of our community and society, I care for our planet and all living things in it. I am known as creative, passionate and affectionate. Looking forward to hosting you & group in lovely Casa Estrella! ¡A tus ordenes! (at your service!), Yoa
