G'day, I am the Pitch Master from the local business incubator theSPACE. It is my home which I live in, a second story unit, a quiet location 10-15 minutes walk from the city shopping centre, 25 mins to the wharf, or a 1/3 the time on the 2 hire push bikes. Plants inside & on the balcony, and tropical trees to look over and check the birds out. It is your home away from home, you can relax and prepare for your tropical adventure. For business travellers you can hot desk for $25/day at theSPACE.

Le logement
The bedroom has a king-sized bed and its own bathroom. It has a fan, air conditioning, plenty of cupboard/hanging space and floor to ceiling mirror. Towels, sheets, beach towels (in laundry), hair dryer, shampoo etc. is all included.

Accès des voyageurs
You have access to the kitchen, laundry, barbecue area and pool, plus a tropical paradise on your doorstep. Basically treat the unit and kitchen as your home away from home. Your host is usually up early and back late in the evening and is sometimes away traveling, so often you have free reign of the unit.

Autres remarques
The juicy season happens December to April give or take a couple of months. During this time the humidity is high and going on diving trips is a great way to spend your time.

The unit has two mobile air conditioners to keep you cool, so it is not a great issue. But you will find when you leave the aircraft you may wonder whether you breathe the air or cut it up into chunks and eat it. But don't worry you get used to it after a couple of years, and in the meantime air conditioning works well. If you set your air conditioner in the 24-26 deg range to dehumidify the air you will find the tropical heat is easier to take, compared to, if you have it set at 18-21 deg, which makes it like a heatwave outside.

The rest of the year is around 20deg at night and 26 during the day. If the daily temperature drops to 20deg expect to see the locals in their Ugg boots and winter woolies.

In spring (September) the temperature rises from 26 to 27deg and all the flowers come out. Summer temperature at 30deg is good and 33deg is very uncomfortable as the humidity amplifies the effect of the heat.

There are two bicycles, with helmets to make it easier for you to get around. There is a small charge of $5/day/bike to cover their maintenance. Just make sure you lock them securely when you leave them.

Hi, intrepid traveller on an amazing adventure, which is about to get even better. To introduce myself I have a business marketing fabric structures, steel framed buildings with a tension membrane fabric skin to the mining, aviation, marine and agricultural industries. I also work in the voluntary position of Pitch Master for the local business incubator, theSPACE helping entrepreneurs to become amazing communicators and help them out with their young innovator's program teaching school kids how to be entrepreneurs. I coach the speakers for the annual JCU TEDx talks and I run one day Professional Communication workshops around the country. The decoration in the unit reflects some of my travels, butterfly wing paintings from Dakar in Senegal, the crocodile a gift from Maprik in Papua New Guinea together with other PNG artefacts. The sideboard and coffee tables are made from North Queensland tropical timbers. The hen was picked up from one of the many local markets. If you are looking for something different search the web for Cairns and Tablelands community markets. Port Douglas has a very big market on Sundays and the drive is breathtaking going up the coast early in the morning. One of the must do's if you have a car and are free on a Sunday. The paintings are all by local artists, you can find the artist's cooperative gallery in the DFO shopping center 274 Mulgrave Road. You will find their prices are extremely reasonable and they have some amazing paintings. If you are staying including Friday to Sunday make sure you visit Rusty's Markets, 57 Grafton St in the city. The range of fruit and vegies is to die for, and a fraction of the supermarket prices, they open at 6am and close at 3pm. If you want to meet the locals I suggest you search the web for Toastmasters Cairns. There are five clubs meeting on Wednesday or Thursday evenings and Tuesday morning every second week, plus a weekly Friday Lunchtime one and their is Entrepreneurs Networking and communication coaching every Tuesday 12:30 to 1:30pm at theSPACE and on Zoom. They are a positive bunch interested in self-development and love having guests to create a different audience and to network with. Soak up the tropical environment, it is something that grows on you and you can really get to love the laid back way of life. Get ready to have a great time in our little corner of paradise. Cheers David

I work locally and live in the unit. I am sometimes traveling but I do love to catch up with my guests and hear of their adventures and home places. My guests have been known to call me the phantom host as I often start early and am out until late.
