You can’t get a better location, whilst still looking at budget accommodation for a larger group. The property is located at 194 Grafton Street, Cairns City and is a very simple walk to get to the City Centre, Esplanade, shops and restaurants. It is an older property that was built in the 1970’s. It is a lowset block of units, with just four in the group. It is not a modern building – but it is the perfect value property.

Below is some information on the property, the apartment and our beautiful City of Cairns.

The Complex

The apartment is located at 194 Grafton Street, Cairns City - in a small, low set complex of just four units.

+We have been informed the property next door is being rebuilt throughout August 2020 and ongoing so there may be some building noise. The contractors have stated noise will only be between 7am – 6pm Monday to Friday and 7am – 1pm on Saturdays. Strictly no audible noise is permitted Sunday or public holidays.

Sadly, this is beyond our control but we would rather you be informed prior to booking if you feel this may impact your stay.

Ramon and myself are the owners of the entire block and over the years we have tried to upgrade the property to bring it up to a good standard. This is a work in progress and we are constantly upgrading when we can. We are offering good quality accommodation at a budget price. Inside we have tried to make it as nice as possible for our guests, and compensate with the nice extras we provide.

Checking in and Checking out

As soon as possible, please confirm your arrival and departure times so we can put this into our calendar.

Check in time – 2pm
Check out time – 10am

One of the most important things to us is to provide a really clean property for our guests to stay at. A thorough clean is performed between guests, and to maintain the standard we need to have the check out time at 10am and the check in time as 2pm.

We have a lock box on site for the apartment – self check in is really simple, we do not meet you on site. Details of the property and how to access the lock box will be sent to you the day before your arrival. You will be provided with two keys for you to use during your stay.

More about the Apartment

Although an older apartment, we try to upgrade internally as nicely as we can. Having a well presented apartment is high on our priorities. Providing a very clean environment is just as importantly. We have recently renovated inside and the photos don’t do it justice. It is a really nice, clean apartment and perfect for your stay. It is fully tiled through out, including the bedrooms.

The furniture is near new and good quality for budget accommodation. We also have a new kitchen with a stove and oven for cooking and a large fridge/freezer. We do provide a washing machine, but not a dryer. We have put lots of photos on so you can see the property internally and externally - it is a great, affordable property that is within an easy walk to the City Centre.

You get to use the entire two bedroom unit for your stay. There are two bedrooms within the apartment. The smaller room has a double bed. The larger room has a queen size bed, plus a single bed. This provides beds for 5 adults comfortably. Each bedroom has a ceiling fan – perfect for circulating the air and keeping you cool in our hot summer.

The bathroom has not been renovated as yet, however it is a neat and clean bathroom. The kitchen and bathroom are yours to use for the stay and are not shared with any one else in the building.

Keeping our guests cool in our hot and humid environment is important. We have just upgraded the air conditioner in the living area to a large split system. There are NO air conditioners in the bedrooms. The large split system will cool down the property effectively and efficiently.

Part of offering affordable accommodation is asking our guests to turn off the air conditioners when they aren’t home. There is no issue with using the air conditioners when at home.

What is in the Apartment?

The property comes self contained and we provide linen to the beds, and towels for all guests. The kitchen is self contained with everything down to the wine glasses!!

To make your stay a little bit nicer, we do provide some extras. In the shower you will find shampoo, conditioner and shower gel. There is hand wash at both the kitchen and vanity. We provide the essentials like toilet paper, paper towels, aluminium foil, plastic wrap etc. There is a television so you can watch all the free to air channels

We also have internet at the property. You will receive the wifi details the day before you arrive. You and your guests can use this during your stay.

In the fridge you will find some basics to make your stay nice – we have tea, coffee, milk and sugar – we have a nice variety of teas as well as herbal teas. In the fridge you will find a variety of jams, peanut butter and of course the all Australian VEGEMITE!! There is tomato sauce, salt and pepper as well as oil and vinegar. Best of all we also leave you a packet of our famous Australian Tim Tam biscuits – you need to research the Tim Tam Slam and see how to best enjoy these classic Australian biscuits. We DO NOT provide breakfast with in the booking.

There is a small area to sit at the front of the apartment if you wish to smoke. We ask that you please do not smoke inside.

To the rear of the rear of the property we have washing lines for you to use during your stay.

How Many People Can Stay??

This property is a two bedroom unit and there is one double, one queen and one single bed – ideal for five guests. We know that there are some larger groups that want to stay. There are two fold down lounges in the living area. These are not pull out sofa lounges with mattresses, these are just your basic fold down sofa from Amart. These are not designed to be slept on for a long period of time with any degree of comfort. As they are not beds as such, we do not provide linen for the sofas.

We do allow for extra guests to stay at our properties, but need to stress there are beds for just five people. If you are looking for a budget way to travel in a larger group – this is ideal.

We do provide good quality linen to the beds, a quilt cover and pillows to all beds. There will be a towel for each paying guest provided, as well as hand towels. Please note we do not provide beach towels.

As our minimum temperature – even in winter rarely dips below 20 degrees, we provide linen to the beds, and a quilt cover. WE DO NOT PROVIDE BLANKETS – keeping cool is our problem not keeping warm!!

Cairns Climate

We are located in the wet tropics. This means it is HOT all year round. Even in our winter it is still warm during the day.

Summer (December – February)
During summer in Cairns, average temperatures range from 23.6 - 31.4°C (74.5 - 88.5°F). The wet season begins building up around December, and most of the region's annual rainfall (around 2000mm / 78.7") occurs in the summer months.

Autumn (March – May)
It is still very warm in autumn, both day and night, with temperatures averaging between 21.5 - 29°C (70.7 - 84.2°F). The rain subsides from April, however the weather can be windy until August.

Winter (June – August)
Winter in Cairns brings slightly cooler temperatures and lower humidity, making it the peak tourist season. Average temperatures range from 17.5 - 26°C (63.5 - 78.8°F) and there is low rainfall.

Spring (September – November)
In spring average temperatures range from 20.5 – 29°C (68.9 - 84.2°F). This is the end of the dry season when humidity starts to build with the onset of the wet season from December. In November the reef comes alive with the annual coral spawning.


Cairns is still a large Country town in many respects. Fortunately there is only timed and paid for parking right in the middle of the City. At Grafton Street there is plenty of parking on the street right outside the complex. You can park there for FREE.

At the front of the building there is a large open area and you may park any where. These are not marked and are available for any of our guests to use during their stay. Again it is free to park and not timed.

Getting Around

The location of our Grafton Street property is great as the City Centre, Esplanade, shops and restaurants are not far away. It is approximately 1 kilometres away. Grafton Street is one of the inner City streets of Cairns and you will find just about everything you need within an easy walk. Grafton Street runs parallel to the Esplanade so you can be walking along the foreshore within a few minutes. There are lots of take away restaurants, a gym and there is even a small supermarket close by. The major supermarkets of Coles and Woolworths are closer into the middle of the City but still an easy walk away.

The walk into the Centre of the City will depend on your level of fitness and speed you walk. It will take any where between 10 – 30 minutes to get right into the middle of the City.

The reef tours all depart from the Pier, which is in the middle of the City and really easy to get to. Cairns has one of the best range of restaurants you could want – you really have to try Oasis Kebabs on the Esplanade – they do the best kebabs in the whole world.

The Airport is approximately 10 minutes drive away. You can take a taxi which will cost approximately $20 - 25 depending on the time of day and traffic conditioners. We now have Uber and the cost will be less.

House Rules

This property is not a hotel and we do not provide daily service.

We ask that you respect the neighbours and keep the noise down to a minimum after 10pm

Please do not smoke inside the units – smoking is permitted outside.

If there is any maintenance, or if an items is accidentally broken – please let us know so we can repair or replace it.

Dispose of ALL rubbish in the apartment, including emptying the bins prior to your departure.

Please turn off the air conditioning when leaving the property.

Cairns is a young, vibrant town and it is the perfect place to let your hair down and have a great time. We just ask that you don’t bring the party home. If there is an issue with any guest being too noisy, it is important that we are informed immediately. We will do our best to resolve the issue – even if it is late at night. Please message me as soon as there are any issues.

What to do in Cairns?

Cairns has so much to see and do – it has something for every one. From diving to the Great Barrier Reef, to the award winning Sky Rail up to Kuranda, to snorkelling at Fitzroy Island or just having a swim at the Lagoon. I have created a guest book within Airbnb. Once you book you will have full access to this. I have put in lots of tours to do, supermarkets, restaurants and points of interest.

The list of things to do in Cairns really is incredible. If you have questions about any tours, please just ask and I will do my best to help you.

Pet Friendly – What does that means?

One of the reasons we started doing Airbnb is because of the lack of pet friendly accommodation. We have two small dogs and we love to travel with them. The definition of pet friendly varies – for us it means they can come inside, they can sit on the sofa with you, they can sleep on the bed with you and they can be part of your holiday here in Cairns. We do not expect our dogs to sleep outside – so if your pets live inside with you, that is fine.

We do ask that you are mindful of other guests and have your pet on a lead at all times. We also ask that you pick up any poop from the gardens and ground. The property does not have an exclusively fenced yard and limited gardens. The Esplanade is a short walk away and the ideal place to go for a long scenic walk and enjoy our beautiful City of Cairns.

When we looked at doing holiday accommodation we realized there is an absolute need for pet friendly - there just aren't that many places that we could take our furry family on holidays with us. For us having them on the couch watching TV is just part of life, so we want to do the same on holidays.
