Le logement
MAKE YOURSELF AT HOME: With a keyless entry and your own personalized code you can feel free to let yourself in and out at your convenience. You’ll have your own separate entrance on the lake-side of the house. Get comfortable, unpack, and feel at home with plenty of closet space, a fully equipped kitchen with all new appliances, vintage tableware and flatware, comfy furnishings, and other high-quality amenities. You’ll have a bright, immaculate, comfortable, and very private space, and the knowledge that your hosts are just a text message or phone call away if there’s anything you should need.

HIGH-QUALITY AMENITIES: We want every moment of your stay to be delightful. The heavy, queen sized iron bed will be made up with high quality cotton sheets, a lush down comforter, and plenty of nice pillows, with extra quilts and blankets always on hand. The generously proportioned bathroom has a larger-than-standard tub with a swinging glass enclosure and a Delta Kinetic handheld shower head. Bath towels are all-cotton, and the shampoo, soap, and conditioner are all 100% organic, crafted by a small specialty soap maker. Even the dish soap and cleaning products are all-natural, and very gently fragranced with essential oils. These are some of the details that we hope will help make your stay a special one.

COUNTRY LIVING / CITY CONVENIENCE: Step out the door and into a little oasis that feels blissfully remote for a place just one mile from downtown. Breathe some good clean air, and look out over at the lake toward the lights of Cornell on East Hill in the distance. Help yourself to some fruit from the apple trees that ripen in the fall. Grill on the original stone barbecue (built of stones harvested from the property). And when you’re ready for some city fun, you can be right in the center of town in a flash. It’s a six minute drive to The Commons, or you can hop on a bus that stops at the intersection just down the block. And of course, walking is also an option. You’ll have easy access to restaurants, bars, supermarkets, co-op markets, libraries, bookstores, specialty shops, parks and more. Maps, walking routes, bus schedules, and listings of some of the more locally-flavored places of interest will be provided in the House Book for use during your stay.

MID-CENTURY AESTHETIC / MODERN SENSIBILITY: If you appreciate the “mid-century modern” aesthetic – clean lines, human-centered design, made-to-last construction, contours and materials that are as nice to touch as they are to the eye – then you will surely enjoy this place. The house was built in 1958 and designed by George Nelson, one of the founders of American Modernism. When we renovated the space in 2016 we paid meticulous attention to detail – from the furniture to the fixtures to the flooring – to maintain the charm, quality, and comforts of the period. Throughout the space you may notice little details like the stone floor in the entry, the comfortable, quiet and resilient cork floors throughout the living spaces, and the all-original robin’s egg blue porcelain in the bath. Modern conveniences include new, retro-styled major appliances, private wi-fi, and web-connected Smart TV through which you can access Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime, Pandora and other media services.

LET THE SUNSHINE (and the moonlight) IN: There are windows throughout, providing plenty of sunshine in the day. The east and south-facing bedroom windows offer a view of the moon as it passes through the night sky, and bathes the space in soft moonlight. Deer, cardinals, hummingbirds, and bunnies are common sights. A large magnolia, a proud stand of pines, apple, quince, and other trees complete the view that leads to the vista with Cayuga Lake, Cornell, and East Hill in the distance.

FOOD & DRINK: There are plenty of restaurants, local-roast coffee shops, microbreweries, supermarkets, and specialty food shops all within a 5 or 10 minute drive.

INSIDER'S GUIDE: We understand that when in an unfamiliar city it can be hard to know just where to go and what to do, especially in a place like Ithaca where there are so many options. Rather than having to rely on the uncertain guidance of Yelp or TripAdvisor, we’ve created a little House Book with guides to point you in some good directions. Also available for your reference are several locally-authored books and guides. We try to keep the information current, but if you have any questions, just send a text or give us a call, and we’ll do our best to help.

We're in a really sweet, quiet neighborhood on a street that gets very little traffic. It's easy to find (just one turn off of the main street). The houses are predominantly of mid-century construction, set back from the road with mature landscaping. Great for walking/jogging, with nice views of the lake across to Cornell.
