The Porthole cottage is perfectly located in the picturesque fishing village of Craster only a few steps from the harbour with views over the stunning Northumberland coastline.
The cottage sleeps 8 in 4 bedrooms & was extensively refurbished in early 2019. The property is a beautiful 1906 Whinstone built traditional fisherman's cottage spanning three floors & offers cosy, comfortable accommodation to guests wanting to experience wonderful coastal walks & views, a superb base to explore.

Exclusive use of this semi-detached seaside cottage with stunning views of Craster harbour & the wider Northumberland coastline.
-Child friendly with high chairs, travel cots & bedding (available on request), stair gates, & enclosed landscaped front garden.
-Private setting with off road parking for a car, further cars are permitted to park nearby within the village.
-Broadband WIFI throughout the cottage.
-Pets-Well behaved dogs are allowed by prior arrangement for a small surcharge (see our house rules). This is to be paid in cash before the end of your stay as Airbnb do not currently cater for this type of arrangement.
-Dolphins, seals & even a basking shark have been spotted close to the Craster coastline.
-Northumberland was voted the best UK holiday county in the 2018 British Travel Awards.
-Upon arrival at The Porthole, our guests receive a welcome pack as well as complimentary tea, coffee, hot chocolate, biscuits, milk, dishwasher tablets & kindling to get their stay underway. Bed linen, towels & tea towels are also provided.
-Please note that The Porthole was refurbished & improved, both internally & externally, during the first three months of 2019.
Rooms & Facilities
-The ground floor accommodation includes a living room with great views out over the landscaped front garden towards Craster harbour. There is an open fire place (with fire guard, kindling, logs or coal are provided) with comfortable seating for all guests. The room also has storage, a TV & DVD player, DVD's & several board games. At Christmas this room is decorated for our guests.
-One of the main features of The Porthole is the kitchen. The sizeable space incorporates traditional stone flooring with every piece of equipment necessary to cater for numerous guests. There is a range cooker/stove, dishwasher, integrated fridge/freezer, washing machine, toaster, microwave, hoover & first aid kit. The large kitchen table is the perfect place for get-togethers with family & friends.
A flight of stairs to the first floor, which includes
-The main bedroom, to the rear of the cottage, contains a king size bed, ample wardrobe & drawer space & a dressing table with mirror.
-The second bedroom looks out over the front garden with panoramic views of the harbour & the village. It has two single beds with wardrobe space, drawers, a dressing table & mirror.
-The main family bathroom compromises of a bath, overhead shower, toilet & basin.
A further flight of stairs leads to the second floor, which includes
-The third bedroom with a single bed, to the rear of the cottage, with built-in storage & a dressing table with mirror.
-The fourth bedroom, to the front of The Porthole, is a double bedroom with built-in storage & a dressing table with a mirror. There are further extensive views from this room out over the harbour, the village & the wider Northumberland coastline.
-There is a single “put me up” bed for an 8th guest which can be located in any of the bedrooms, if required.
-The bathroom has a walk-in shower with wall-hung wc & basin.
-Sleeps 8.
-Each bedroom is provided with a hair dryer.
-The grounds of The Porthole incorporate a front landscaped enclosed garden which overlooks the harbour with garden furniture, seaside planting & BBQ.
-The rear of the cottage has a small patio with garden furniture.
-The main feature of the cottage is that The Porthole is a traditional fisherman's cottage tastefully & stylishly decorated which is right in the middle of the lovely, picturesque fishing harbour village of Craster whilst the nearest town, historic Alnwick is 6 miles away.
-The fantastic gastro pub, The Jolly Fisherman is only a short walk from The Porthole & serves great food from its restaurant overlooking the North Sea & Dunstanburgh Castle. It is well known for its crab sandwiches & crab soup.
-There is also an art gallery/gift shop, cafe, excellent fish restaurant, kipper smokehouse & a children's playground all within walking distance of the cottage.
-Excellent walking, trekking, golf, fishing, bird watching & cycling are all within easy reach of The Porthole.

Accès des voyageurs
-Guests have full access to The Porthole across all of it's three floors.
-As temporary residents there is private parking beside the property for a vehicle, any other vehicles (up to two others) can use the designated residents passes to park in the village, any other vehicles would have to park in the public car park on the outskirts of the village, as the village only allows for residents parking. There is no overnight parking allowed in the public car park.
-Please return the vehicle passes to The Porthole prior to your departure.

Autres remarques
-Check out is 10 am on the day of your departure so we can get The Porthole all shipshape for our next guests.
-There is little mobile phone signal in Craster, however our wifi at The Porthole allows you to make internet based calls.
-There is a public phone box right beside The Porthole if needed.
-If you are arranging a supermarket delivery, our full address is The Porthole, 4 West End, Craster, Northumberland, NE66 3TS.
-When parking your vehicle at The Porthole please note that the designated space between the public phone box & Marie's Cottage is to be shared with two other vehicles from adjacent cottages, please therefore park considerately, allowing enough space for the two other permitted vehicles to park.
-Parking permits are provided for two further vehicles allowing them to park in Craster as a 'resident'.
-Please return these passes to the cottage prior to your departure.
-Any other vehicle would have to park in the public car park as you enter Craster as only residents are allowed to park in the village. There is no overnight stays allowed in the public car park.

-Craster is world famous for it's kippers which have been smoked in the village for centuries. Robson's smokehouse is only a short walk from the cottage, the Robson family used to own The Porthole.
-The Porthole was once the village Post Office.
-It is also a short walk from The Porthole to the wonderful Jolly Fisherman pub (we call it our ‘en suite pub’ !) which offers great gastro style food with stunning views across the Northumberland coastline from the restaurant. They are renowned for their crab sandwiches.
-The excellent Craster Seafood Restaurant is an even shorter walk from the cottage.
-The village also has a small shop/cafe as well as an art gallery/gift shop & an outdoor children's play area.
-The Porthole is literally on the doorstep of Dunstanburgh Castle, the walk, which is just over a mile, has been voted as one of the nation's top 10 favourite walks.
-Howick Hall Gardens are nearby & well worth a visit, with banks of rhododendrons, camellias & magnolias in the springtime.
-A visit to Holy Island, which is reached via a tidal causeway & is famous for the Lindisfarne Gospels, is a must.
-Don't forget the pretty village of Bamburgh with its majestic castle overlooking the expansive sandy beach.
-Alnwick Castle & Garden, with its spectacular grand cascade waterfall & tree house restaurant, are 6 miles away.
