This is a large family room with comfortable beds and outdoor sitting area with sea view in our little guesthouse, Haven. Haven sits at the sheltered end of a picturesque cove next to the fishing village of Bai Xep, just south of the up-and-coming port city of Quy Nhon, South Central Vietnam. Our five private rooms adjoin a quiet courtyard and a common lounge area with comfortable seating, small library and long table suitable for laptop work, writing, drawing or playing games with friends.

Le logement
Haven is really a haven. In our lounge area you can sit on your own or with friends and read or gaze at the sea, sky and offshore islands, watch fishermen bring in their catch and their children play on the sand, observe the changing of the weather, and feel the winds shift throughout the day, and in your room you can fall asleep at night and wake up in the morning to the sound of waves breaking onto the shore. Our courtyard and common area are always quiet, making them a perfect space for contemplation and relaxation and also for writing, drawing or playing cards. Many of our guests spend weeks here and don't want to leave.

Où se situe le logement

Thành phố Qui Nhơn, Bình Định, Vietnam

Right next door to Haven, our beachfront garden bistro - Big Tree - is open from 6.30am to 9pm every day and is open to day visitors as well as our staying guests. A wide range of breakfast, lunch and dinner meals are available at affordable prices, and our specials board changes daily with dishes served from our wood-fired oven, including stone-cooked pizza, legs of lamb, whole chicken and many more.

The village of Bai Xep is full of life and colour and is easily accessible from Haven - just take a few steps out the gate and up the lane and there you are. The local people are friendly, welcoming and fun-loving, so you will feel at ease as you wander around observing village life and sitting down for meals and snacks at local seafood restaurants and food stalls. Some of the local fishermen offer boat tours to nearby islands where you can enjoy snorkeling and roasting sea snails, or take a short lesson in how to row one of the conical boats that the fishermen keep on the beach in front of our guesthouse.

After periods of rainfall the waterfalls in the hills above the village run freely and are fun to bathe in on sunny afternoons. You will pass mango, papaya, pomelo, banana, coconut and lemongrass gardens as you hike up to the waterfalls. After a hike in the hills you can come back down to the village and enjoy a spa treatment or massage at the reasonably priced spa of a local woman trained in one of the nearby luxury resorts. There are several other beautiful bays within reach by walking, motorbike, car and bus, perfect for day trips and lunches at local seafood restaurants.

Quy Nhon city, with its tree-lined beachside promenade, busy markets and fishing port, seafood restaurants, Cham towers and museums, is also good for a day visit. And the former leprosy village of Quy Hoa, a few kilometres north of Bai Xep, has a unique atmosphere and offers an insight into the French colonial history of the area and a look to the future with its planetarium and international science and education conference centre, ICISE.

We are a Vietnamese and Australian family from Hanoi and Wollongong. We have had our guesthouse and restaurant in Bai Xep for five years and love the village and surrounding area and the city of Quy Nhon and province of Binh Dinh. We are anthropologists and lovers of learning, literature, music, art, film, history, culture, science and nature. Our staff are almost all from the village of Bai Xep, with several from other parts of Vietnam. We are a friendly, cheerful and easy-going but also careful and hard-working group of people.
