Le logement
The setting is serene and what dreams are made of (if you're a nature lover) and into a very different summer accommodation in Manitoba!

If you've been to other places in North America that have embraced the whole earth house, alternative living, tiny house, trailer type movement, this may be for you! :)

In addition to the Little Retreat in the Forest Cabin and the Little Tipi in the Forest, you are on the same 80 acres as when you rent the cabin.

It’s my little project right now :) I’m figuring it out between bookings of the cabin and the Little Retreat. And it’s not a winter thing, it’ll have a small heater though :).

NOTE! This is intended for a group rental so if book a stay at the Little Retreat, part of your group can book the Little Trailer, prices will be set out on the Little Trailer page. I’ll consider booking the Little Trailer in its own in between bookings of the Little Retreat too just message me :).

So you’ll be alone :) and we only rent this out when no one is at the cabin at the Little Retreat in the Forest.

And since it’s more like renting a yurt in a provincial park campsite or a trailer (actually it’s less than that I think), I do it very selectively.

On the 80 acres you will find several ponds (oh my do watch for the mosquitoes in June and July!! :) ), rough trails that are flat in parts and that get your blood moving stepping over logs or rough ground in parts (if it is spring time bring your rubber boots it is the interlake boreal plains!!) and you might see deer roaming around.

The trailer is a cute vintage 1970s trailer that we guarantee we have done up nicely and decorated all boho and in a southwestern vibe! Like staying in the desert in Joshua Tree or the hills of North Carolina, this is a secluded accommodation nestled in the forest perfect for star gazing and taking in nature and a campfire.

As far as amenities you will have a tiny kitchen with gas stove and sink and utensils, coffee maker, filtered water provided, electricity for charging small things like cell phones and enough for lights, and a path across to the outdoor claw foot tub and an outdoor shower (think DIY!).

And you will have WIFI which comes from the cabin, I put in a new wifi system into the forest. I use it too and it works pretty good for emails, messenger and apps like that. But you can still disconnect from the city world!!

It has a vintage RV size double bed with a comfy mattress topper, so one person can have it all to themselves or a couple can stay there all cozy and snug together :).

So this one can sleep a cozy couple or one person on your own private getaway just for you! (originally I was going to outfit the drop down bunk these trailers have for a third guest but I want to take the extra time and work on it to make sure it’s extra safe for an adult guest as well).

So right now the trailer is just for two people that really really like each other or one person seeking your own private seclusion :).

So yes amenities wise it has a kitchen with cooking implements (that fit a tiny kitchen), with an electric kettle, drip coffee maker, french press, coffee grinder, utensils, really cool glassware, a selection of teas in the cupboard, coffee beans, filtered water dispenser for drinking water.

The washroom is a little primitive so you have to be into the whole staying in the forest thing, since for now it will be an outdoor porta potty... I’d like to put in a composting system next year, to help save our Mother Earth. But if your group is renting the Little Retreat cabin you can use the washroom there too.

There will be a wagon for you to haul your stuff down the road to the trailer from the main driveway, so it ensures no cars come to the trailer during your stay.

If you want to swim or just relax by the water our pond is a pretty good swim even though it is only about 4 feet deep, but it totally works and you'll have a blast. The clay bottom is actually really nice and soft on the toes!

It is also only about a 5 minute drive to the end of the road at Lake Winnipeg, or you can bike which I'd say is about 15 minutes and I provide a couple good bikes too :). There may be a couple other people there at most but that is it.

Or drive into Gimli 10 minutes away and go to the busy beach and check out the scene.

You’ll have the 80 acres to yourself, in summer I might park and camp my VW Westfalia the odd night 1/8 mile away from the cabin at the north end of the land, but you’ll know! I always message about my guests about everything. You won’t see me or here me (unless you want to!) and otherwise you’ll have the 80 acres to yourself when you’ve booked it, I guarantee it. I respect your privacy on the land and extremely conscientious of that, I know that’s why you’ve booked my place :).

Check out my Instagram page too coming soon at @littletrailerintheforest.

The 80 acres are all yours to explore.

I am still mapping out the land, but I haven't bumped into anyone back there yet on the trails on any of my walks, even the trails that mix into the neighbours land.

I love the place in all seasons, of course you may only be renting the trailer in late spring to late fall, it is equally beautiful all year round.

In summer check out the shores of Lake Winnipeg and the Monastery at Camp Morton or go for a drive to Gimli or Riverton and other close by towns which are all a short rive away.

Challenges in summer can include what you find in Manitoba and the boreal plans forest including mosquitoes and also wood ticks (they are not deer ticks which carry Lyme disease) just so you know. Mosquitoes of course are worst in the early evening only and then they go away. And of course they are everywhere in Manitoba and most of central Canada!

Autres remarques
The morning pink hue in the sky at sunrise and sunset is absolutely stunning, as is the northern lights at the end of the driveway (depending upon the time of year!), so bring a camera :).

Camp Morton, Manitoba, Canada

Your closest neighbors are about an 1/8th of a mile away on either side so I don't imagine you will have much interaction with them. Sometimes rural folks do drop in and are interested in seeing if we need anything done but those interactions are usually fairly minimal and they know not to come by unless I have invited them. It is possible someone might to see see if the driveway needs plowing in winter or the like.

Hi there! I suppose that am an adventurous soul, I established my career as a human rights lawyer working for Indigenous peoples, raising my son by myself, and I have loved embracing meditation, yoga, nature and the outdoors. Now that I have a bit of free time I find myself looking for quality time when I'm not running my business, I've ridden my motorcycle across the US, camped at festivals and out of the way places in my VW westfalia campervan, and I love to spend a weekend at the cabin hiking, making it into a nature retreat or curled up with a good book and a strong cup of coffee! Most of all I guess I really enjoy hosting people and making people happy! I cherish peace and tranquility as much as I do adventure and I recognize the comforts and luxuries that are sometimes missed while travelling, but I don't have crazy expectations, just a great experience and good people :). I am easy to communicate with and am a very understanding person. Whether I am a host or a guest I aim to always be friendly, considerate, respectful, accommodating and genuine :). Just as much as I love traveling, as your host I look forward to catering to what you need when you visit and giving you a wonderful, cozy space to experience some simple, beautiful time away from home to find space for exploring your passions or some much needed time to restore :). Happy travels! Michael

Pendant votre séjour
Most guests check in entirely on their own, so it works for me too. My guests love to just drive up and walk in to their space and make themselves at home and start their private retreat right away.

I send a detailed message to you closer to your stay with absolutely everything you will need to know, to the extreme, from tips on the land, rules and amenities, and local tips including restaurants.

You will likely be completely on your own.

I will be available by text during your stay and I make sure to be available as much as possible and you can ask me absolutely any question you want, my guests reviews attest to how much I make myself available to answer your questions.

I love to make you feel at home and safe, secure and comfortable out there so please ask any questions any time.

And if anything comes up out there or something stops working please let me know as soon as possible and I will be on it. This is also my home and my favourite place on earth so I will right on it. I have a host of people that can attend to things for me that are associated with the retreat and some live close including my neighbours.

I employ a local cleaner as well whom we pay a fair wage, that's why there is a cleaning fee. She has to drive 20 minutes from her town and get things done. She is great and gets the job done super reliably, getting all the bedding made up for you and clean.

Of course give me a shout if something could be cleaner or if we are out of something, if you need to pick something up which I am out of (which won't likely happen ever) I will definitely reimburse you no problem!.

We also usually have a jeep on site in case of any emergency we can insure it if you were really stuck and needed some emergency transportation in the case of bad weather, but that has not happened yet!
