The place is situated close to Manly Beach and is very close to the main line bus route. The bus takes you on a short trip to Manly Beach or in the other direction, a short trip to the City of Sydney, Wynyard Station.
The property is a large detached home with front and rear gardens. To the front there is a sunny balcony with district views offering a perfect place for a morning coffee at the café style table setting or a relaxing bask in the sun at the outdoor lounge. To the rear, a large level garden offers outdoor dining for eight to twelve diners, a large barbecue area, a fire pit with seating, two lounge sofas for reclining, a gas heater, and heaps of blankets for the chillier evening.
We are a family of four, Stephen, Shani, Maya and Cerys who have been living here for over 15 years. There are two friendly dogs in the family, Shelly the Jug and Leah the Ridgeback Mastiff. The house has 6 bedrooms. This leaves 3 bedrooms permanently available and set up for guests. Two of the three guest rooms are on the ground floor and enjoy a shared modern bathroom. These two rooms are available at most times throughout the year. The third guest bedroom is on the first floor and shares the family bathroom. The third bedroom is available on most weekends and has superb district views. All guest rooms have study areas, robes and ample room for storage.
The area has amazing scenery and walks through national parks and beaches and is an international surfing mecca with more than 40 beaches within 30-45 minutes’ drive. Your hosts are available to show you around and provide transport in a 7 seater vehicle. Balgowlah is a quiet leafy suburb close to the Stockland Shopping Mall on Sydney Road and village shops at Balgowlah Heights. Warringah Mall is a 20 minute bus drive. Possums cam be seen in the bushes on the property boundary.
Nearby attractions include North Harbour Reserve, Forty Baskets Beach, Sydney Harbour National Park, Tania Park, Clontarf, Spit Bridge Marina and Yacht Club. Mosman is a ten minute bus ride where you will find Taronga Zoo and view of the Opera House. Balgowlah enjoys public transport access to all the Northern Beaches. Local activities include kayaking, SUP boarding, surf boarding and cycling. Whale watching tours run from Manly Wharf between May and October. Regular ferries run from Manly Wharf to Circular Quay where nearby attractions include Sydney Opera House, Sydney Harbour Bridge, Royal Botanic Gardens, The Rocks, and Art Gallery of New South Wales. The Rocks also hosts a number of famous real ale bars though Manly is equally adept at catering. Shelly Beach is situated a 20 minute flat coastal walk from Manly Beach and is highly recommended as a destination for sunbathing, snorkelling, swimming, hanging out at the picturesque café with sensational food and an outdoor barbecue area. The setting is truly inspiring. Wildlife can be seen on this walk, particularly lizards and birds.
The house is a 1920s house built on sandstone and renovated and designed around the original cottage layout. The land slopes down to the road which accentuates the district and treetop views from the front balcony. The rear garden is level and includes 100m2 timber deck and a trampoline. There is plenty of space for guest and afternoon barbecues.
As we have lived here a while our neighbours are available should you require any assistance or have questions when we are not around. We would expect that by 10pm, noise levels would be lowered out the back and that by midnight the outside would be left reasonably quiet. If you are planning on being outside after 10pm please let us know so we can let our neighbours know in advance.
The beds and mattresses are high quality and include mattress protectors and pillows. Linen and bedding is changed every time and we provide towels for washing and showering which are laundered before arrival. Basics such as shampoos and soap are provided. If we have left anything out, let us know and we will provide it.
The home has all modern conveniences with a new kitchen that includes a steam oven and roasting oven. You have your own fridge which is stocked with basic supplies on arrival including milk, bread, ice cream, sauces and other snacks. Storage cupboard space is available for your use and we have storage space for bikes and surfboards in the garage. Parking is on the street and is free. There are nearly always parking spaces. We will help you with any luggage carrying. We occasionally cook an evening meal large enough for guests to share and you can help yourself buffet style.
