There are public restrooms/coin showers (8 quarters) one mile away at the back of Big Bend Resorts motel. The Cottonwood store has a good selection of groceries, camping supplies and water fill station for 10 cents a gallon with your own jug.

Secure your tent and gear at night and when you leave! You can not rely on the forecast to predict the winds that can come up in the desert out of Never leave your gear, or chairs around the fire pit when you leave or go to bed.

I expect campers to respect my property and leave as good or better than you found it. Please practice Leave No Trace, Tread Lightly, pack it in pack it out principals. If you don't know what that means, look it up before you arrive. The desert and my property are pristine, please do your part to keep it that way. Thank you in advance! ** Note: if you must be so disrespectful as to leave cigarette butts on the ground or trash behind, I will leave you a bad review and you won't be allowed back. Leave it as you found it.

Do not have campfires in windy conditions. Only have fires in the provided firepit. put out your fire completely before bed and before leaving. Do not burn plastic.

Keep an eye on the forecast and realize that rain to the north can cause the dry creeks on my property to flash flood and you may not be able to leave till it recedes, which is usually pretty quick, but depends on conditions. This is the desert so it doesn't rain much or often. The rainy season is during the summer months, usually July through September when not many people are camping anyway. ALWAYS stay aware of the

The view of the Chisos mountains is about the best around. Front and center is Emory Peak, the highest point in the national park at 7800 ft. To the left of that is Casa Grande and to the right is the South Rim. Good hiking at Indian Head trail is a mile from my place and has amazing views, interesting rock formations, native American pictographs, etc. Trail is easy and suitable for hiking and mountain bikes.

Owner of Mel's Place, a 20 acre property with a unique off grid glamping cabin and primitive campground with amazing views of Big Bend National Park and located just a mile from amenities and five miles from the park. I enjoy camping, outdoor activities, live music, good food, time with friends around a campfire, and doing arts and crafts when nature inspires me. I'm a semi- retired landscape designer and vacation rental host. Having great life experiences is what I believe in and try to be grateful every day for the chance to do so. When friends visit Mel's Place they often say it feels special and that it has a great energy. I agree! I hope my airbnb guests feel the same and treat it as their own. Enjoy!
