Le logement
Welcome to the BnB@303 in the MRE - Maritime Republic of Eastport! "We like it this way!" (Read more about the MRE below.)
Our Airbnb apartment is located in the modern, first floor addition to the home my grandfather built (literally, all by himself - he was a carpenter) in the early years of the last century in Eastport. You can watch the boats bobbing on Spa Creek while you make coffee in the galley, and then walk or water taxi (check operation during COVID) to downtown attractions. The new South Annapolis Yacht Centre Is our close neighbor and we think our guests will be delighted with the changes SAYC have bought about. The waterfront is totally transformed with the creation of a first class, ecologically progressive, marina, managing over 100% of stormwater run-off with such best practices as a green roof, underdrains, and native species gardens.

Où se situe le logement

Annapolis, Maryland, États-Unis

Though you are likely staying with us to enjoy the water or visit Annapolis proper, Eastport has a unique, egalitarian (contrarian?) ambiance. The plethora of Eastport homes with $1M+ price tags belies Eastport's history as a place where, in the early 20th century, people of modest means came to turn their effort into equity as they raised their homes on the “wrong” side of the bridge. Eastport was not annexed by Annapolis (some say irregularly) until 1951. In 1998, when the bridge connecting us to Annapolis was shut down for repairs, locals "declared independence" and the Maritime Republic of Eastport (MRE) was born. This tongue-in-cheek rebellion became the platform for local engagement and today, the MRE, along with the more conventionally organized Eastport Civic Association, provide the framework for a friendly and involved community. Check out the restaurants, coffee shops, and other businesses on this side of Spa Creek, a short walk from the BnB. You will not be disappointed.

Hello and thanks for considering staying at our place! I have a great appreciation of "place" and I love all the places where life takes me and brings me into new and deeper relationships. I have really enjoyed preparing the house in Cheverly to receive guests and continuing to make it more and more welcoming. I LOVE working on houses. I’ve been enjoying inside work during the winter, getting my fingers in spackling and paint. Now that the weather has turned warm, I relish turning attention to the yard, managing the unruly crop of ivy that taken over! This 1938, Tudor Revival home in Cheverly is very special to me. Our family has owned the house since 1988, and my children’s memories are all caught up in this house. When we moved away in 2003, we rented the whole house to two wonderful families - the first a Unitarian Universalist clergyman and his family, the second an interior designer and her elderly parents, whose later years she wanted to make beautiful. Why am I writing this? I guess because it explains, a little bit, why the house has such a good “spirit” to it. In November of 2016, I came home to Cheverly with the idea of occupying part of the house and remodeling the upstairs to a cozy apartment to share with people from around the world coming to visit nearby Washington, DC. After dealing with several surprises (e.g. having to replace a good portion of the original slate roof!), I put my listing up in April of 2017. When I'm not scraping paint or pulling ivy, I work doing research, currently on people’s experience of disability, health and illness. Looking forward to answering any questions you may have and, if it works for you, hosting you soon! Manon

Eastport is our 3rd (!) Airbnb guest space. Sharing the places we love with visitors is a family tradition; census documents as far back as the 1800's provide a snapshot of people who have stayed with us over the years in the different places our family hails from, most notably, Maryland, Massachusetts, and Texas. COVID has made us re-think shared spaces and face-to-face interaction, but even though you likely won't see us, rest assured that either I or one of my (all grown-up) kids will be promptly available to answer any questions, or address any problems, you may have. Using the Airbnb app is the best way to be in touch; we all have the app on our phones. Airbnb also provides direct cell contact (fail-safe) info once you book.
