Emplacement

Montesilvano, Abruzzes, Italie

Montesilvano is an Italian town of almost 55,000 inhabitants in the province of Pescara in Abruzzo.

Located in the northern area of Pescara, with which it borders forming a single urban agglomeration, it is divided into Montesilvano Colle, the old center and Montesilvano Marina (or Montesilvano Spiaggia), the most populous and modern part, seat of the municipality.

Thanks to the famous district of Villa Carmine, the territory of today's municipality of Montesilvano has entered history since Roman times. The area of Villa Carmine experienced economic splendor thanks to the presence of the salt pans, whose product was sent to Rome.
After various vicissitudes Montesilvano returned to the Bourbons (1815). In the twenties and thirties of the nineteenth century, some citizens joined the Carboneria and, around the middle of that same century, the country, due to its small size and in the absence of a ruling class capable of governing it, was aggregated to the municipality of Cappelle sul Tavo.

Thanks to a first settlement promoted by the Piscione family (1852) and, above all, thanks to the opening of the Ancona-Castellamare Adriatico (Pescara) section of the railway and a station in (1863), around which the greatest part of the inhabited, the marine Contrada began to form. It was this that decreed the development of the district, which would later be called Montesilvano Marina or Montesilvano Spiaggia. In 1904 Montesilvano regained full administrative autonomy and, in the summer of 1926, the town hall was moved from the Colle to the Marina. In 1908 the King of Italy Vittorio Emanuele III, in transit in Montesilvano, stopped in the "Colonnetta" area.
On July 13, 1997, the President of the Republic Oscar Luigi Scalfaro, visiting the land of Abruzzo, chose the parish church of "S. Antonio di Padova" town, to fulfill his Sunday religious precept. Immediately afterwards, continue on foot towards Piazza Diaz, to admire the new renovated Palazzo Comunale and to pay homage to the plaque placed at the foot of the local War Memorial made by the hand of a local artist Prof Vinicio Verzieri.
Montesilvano, which developed mainly along the Adriatic, acquired its current physiognomy only in the second half of the twentieth century. After the devastation of the Second World War and the subsequent reconstruction, the city was in fact practically reborn, orienting itself both towards tourism development with the first hotel settlements (1963-1966), and towards commercial, service and, to a lesser extent, craftsmanship and industrial, which will determine the vigorous urban expansion of the last decades and the remarkable economic well-being that distinguish it today.

The city has in fact gone from about 7,300 inhabitants in 1951 to over 54,000 today (2017), with a real population explosion that, in this same period, has not known any other center in the region. The proximity to Pescara, Abruzzo's first demographic pole, largely justifies this tumultuous development, supported by a thriving tertiary sector (advanced tertiary, in some sectors) and by the numerous artisan and industrial activities that have found a way to settle in this dynamic coastal strip. A prominent place in the local economy continues to be occupied by the tourist industry that rests on a hotel accommodation, which can boast a Palazzo dei Congressi, unique in the province, and gives life to an armature of large proportions: night clubs, bars, advanced tertiary activities, restaurants, etc.
