The Wild Turkey Inn is set in a Victorian heritage home, built in 1896, during the time of Rossland’s famous Gold Rush.

Our little inn, three blocks from downtown, has three guest rooms, each with its own feel and tribute to our local history. Renting out the entire inn (Turkey Takeover) gives you the exclusive use of a newly renovated kitchen, elegant dining room, and comfortable lounge areas.

We are ten minutes to Red Mountain, so you can easily enjoy the town and ski the resort.

THE WILD TURKEY INN THROUGH THE YEARS:

In 1890, gold was discovered in the Red Mountain district of the West Kootenays, and the town of Rossland emerged. The Bank of Montreal joined the rush, and J.S.C. Fraser, relative of Simon Fraser, was the first bank manager. Our house was built for him, in approximately 1896, using the finest materials available... and it shows. She stands tall and proud, and thanks to the caretaking of all its previous owners, she’s a beauty. The soft fir floors and intricate crown moldings, door casings, and archways are sights to behold.

This house has been running as a successful bed and breakfast for many years. We are carrying on the tradition of welcoming travellers into this home and have worked hard to add our personal touches. Our renovations have been carefully planned to respectfully maintain the character of our new home while bringing back some of her previous grandeur. We have made a few changes to improve livability, the most significant of which is our new guest kitchen space. Coffee, tea, hot chocolate and light snacks are complementary. For those who come with your outdoor gear in tow, we have a secure ski and bike storage area available for your use in our basement.

Our name… The Wild Turkey Inn, is truly locally inspired. When we first visited the property in late winter of 2018, we found the trees around the house filled with wild turkeys. We fell in love with them right away and feel they capture the same spirit of independence and good humour that we hope to evoke here at our inn.

Emplacement

Rossland, Colombie Britannique, Canada

The Wild Turkey Inn is located three blocks from Rossland’s main street. In this downtown area, you will find a number of boutique stores and restaurants. Visit The Alpine Grind or Seven Summits Coffee, Hooper’s Bakery, The Rossland Beer Company, or The Flying Steamshovel Pub, amongst many others, for wonderful small town experiences. Ferraro Foods is our local grocery store. We can’t say enough about this place. It’s probably better stocked with gourmet ingredients than most grocers in large urban centres. Check out the Rossland Museum & Discovery Centre and the town’s heritage buildings to learn more about the history of this area.

Red Mountain is a hidden gem of a ski hill and is a mere ten-minute drive away. The powder is dry, the glade skiing is epic, and new terrain has opened this year. From Red, you can jump on the Mt. Kirkup Cat to access slackcountry terrain for only $10. Check out Big Red Cats to access more remote lift-free skiing, or if you are skilled in backcountry travel, talk to us about the local ski touring spots. The Black Jack Cross-Country Ski Club maintains over 40km of scenic ski terrain and is also a ten minute drive away (across from Red Mountain).

The surrounding area is criss-crossed with mountain bike trails for all levels of riders, including the legendary Seven Summits trail. The Redstone Resort golf course is a true mountain course and is a five minute drive from our house. Ski, hike, bike, golf, shop, dine, learn the history, view the wildlife... it’s all here!

There are a number of small towns and attractions worth visiting within a two hour drive. These include: Trail, Nelson, Whitewater Ski Resort, Kaslo, Creston, Ainsworth Hotsprings, Christina Lake, the Slocan Valley, and Greenwood. Rossland is part of the ski resort focused Powder Highway and the birding and historical Selkirk Loop.

Spokane, Washington is a 2.5 hour drive from here and has the closest international airport. Trail and Castlegar both boast regional airports about 30 minutes away. Kelowna has the nearest Canadian international airport and is 3.5 hours away.

Do the 7-8 hour drive from Vancouver, Calgary, or Seattle and feel like you’ve truly escaped the big city (trust us, we did it!).

We are outdoor adventurers at heart and chose to move from North Vancouver to Rossland in 2019 so that our skis, bike tires, dog paws, and lenses were in a quiet unspoiled mountain setting. While we were truly in love with the south coast mountains and all their grandeur, we felt we needed to make a change and began to search for somewhere smaller. We have been pleasantly surprised by just how truly remarkable it is here. The people smile and look you in the eye in a way that just doesn’t happen in the big city. The air is fresh, the nights are still, you can see the stars, and each of the four seasons is a sight to behold. We are excited to host travellers in Rossland and look forward to having you check out our new digs that we're calling The Wild Turkey Inn.
