Contemporary design meets history in this 100-year old, recently refurbished, terraced red-brick house a short tram or bus-ride from the city centre and only 15-20 minutes walk to the famous Kilmainham Gaol and IMMA at the Royal Hospital Kilmainham.

Le logement
You will have a lovely, bright and spacious double bedroom and a charming single bedroom with original fireplace and stylish bathroom, also with its own original fireplace and luxurious bath (with a view of the sky...). You will have cooking and dining facilities in a well-equipped kitchen and a comfortable sitting room with a wood-burning stove. The courtyard garden is a lovely place for breakfast on a sunny morning or to sit at any time of the day. You will have the house to yourself for your stay. This little redbrick townhouse surprises by feeling so spacious and is located in the traditional railway-workers' neighbourhood. It is equally suited to a romantic getaway or a family trip. There is an open green space across from the house. In the immediate vicinity is a local Italian restaurant and wine bar - 7 to 8 minutes walk from the house and a friendly traditional pub next to the wine bar. A small park to the rear of the nearby church (3 minutes walk away) is very pleasant for an evening stroll and a walk along the canal is also minutes away. In fifteen to twenty minutes you can walk to the historic Kilmainham Goal, Dublin's most popular visitor attraction and right next to this is the Royal Hospital Kilmainham, a fine 17th century building in beautiful grounds and now the home to the Irish Museum of Modern Art. The War Memorial Gardens, designed by Edwin Lutyens, are also around 15/20 minutes away and as well as the formal gardens, you can meander along the River Liffey and watch the members of various rowing clubs in training. The Luas Red Line (tram) is 4/5 minutes from the house and brings you to a number of useful stops in the city centre including the two regional train stations (Heuston Station and Connelly Station), Collins Barracks, which now houses the National Museum, shopping and dining areas and the Point Depot theatre. Buses also travel to various city centre locations including the Guinness Storehouse and Dublin Castle.

Accès des voyageurs
One double bedroom, one single bedroom, (in addition, a travel cot can be organized on request) bathroom with bath, kitchen/dining, sitting room, small rear garden. There is free wifi for guests.

Autres remarques
There is free on-street parking outside the house. Food for breakfast and basic provisions will be available in the kitchen.

Dublin, Irlande

A pleasure, for me, is a stroll by the canal, ending up in one of my favourite cafes - either opposite Kilmainham Gaol or in the basement of the Royal Hospital Kilmainham. Taking in a good exhibition at IMMA and walking in the gardens afterwards. On a fine day, a picnic in the Memorial Gardens or one of the the other local parks is a treat. The Phoenix Park is just a bit further than the Memorial Gardens (and can be reached by tram - getting off at Heuston Station) and was once the largest walled park in Europe (or the world, depending upon who you are talking to!). The neighbours in Inchicore are a mixture of the original Dublin inhabitants ('real Dubs'), who easily engage in a bit of witty repartee and blow-ins like myself - recent arrivals from other parts (South Dublin near the seaside in my case). A nice way to spend the evening is in the very friendly local wine bar (Enoteca Torino) or in one of its cousin-restaurants in the 'Italian Quarter' in the city centre. I am something of a culture-vulture and so I love the great theatre, dance and art on offer in Dublin and the many festivals that take place throughout the year.

I am a Dublin native, originally from south Dublin, by the seaside, but living for the past 10 years in Inchicore, near to the City Centre. I love to travel and have been to some far-flung places such as Japan, Cambodia and Mexico. I have lived in Berlin for a few years, firstly in the 1990's and more recently, during a career break. I am an architect and work as a lecturer in Waterford, South East of Ireland, which is around two hours by train from Dublin. Thus, I spend a few days a week away from home. At the moment, all my time, when not at work, is spent with my 9-month-old son. A great week-end, for me, involves great coffee, chats with friends, some cultural event such as an art exhibition or a dance performance, a good book and a walk by the seaside, in a park or in the countryside. A nice glass of wine with dinner helps to round things off....I am interested in all the arts, really - I have played classical violin (now I am more likely to take part in a jam session) and some of my (currently neglected) interests involve art-making and creative writing.
