Gorgeous Home, created from a 1930's dairy barn renovated into a unique residence: chef's kitchen; 30' lap POOL; gas log stove; balcony for grilling, HOT TUB, dining, mtn views and FIRE PIT. Conveniently located in the tiny village of Pownal Center near VT/MA/NY corners. Le logement
This is our former home and is actually a small portion of a 10,000 sf renovated barn complex which includes our former studio and gallery now closed, separate guest apartment, as well as ample areas for outdoor living with pool, patio, and large yard.
This is a really unique space. The original barn was converted to retail in the 60's when US Route 7, the main artery from Long Island Sound to the Canadian border, was relocated and includes 7 stained glass windows rescued from an old church in Whitehall, NY. When we completely renovated we left these gorgeous windows alone. Our renovation added a fabulous kitchen and bathroom, deck with hot tub, courtyard and pool, dining room, family room and what we call the "bunkhouse room". We also added air conditioning and a gas fireplace for winter coziness. The photos will tell the story better than my words can ever do.
There are sleeping accommodations for 8 people but we prefer to have no more than four adults as to not overtax the infrastructure. Guest apartment is a wholly separate space that can be accessed from the courtyard or, by special arrangement, through the service entrances/corridor.
Note to potential guests: 99% of our guests love staying here and return and recommend us to their friends. The other fraction of a percent have a problem with rough-hune barn boards, slightly out-of-square or out-of-plumb angles, windows not designed to open, an occasional mouse "leave-behind", the proximity to a road (hey, where else would you put your barn), and any number of other observations. It is not some architectural masterpiece. This is our former home which we designed into a somewhat funky residence that maintains a barn-like flavor. If these things bother you please do not rent from us! We depend on good reviews and a good rental season to cover the cost of owning this rural treasure.

Luggage can be offloaded through a ground floor service entrance, but day to day access is through the balcony overlooking the courtyard. NOTE: The service entrance can be used by handicapped guests with advanced notice and guest's agreement to keep the service entrance locked. The balcony contains outdoor dining for six, a gas grill and the hot tub. The pool, lawn, fire pit, and yard are for all to enjoy at any time of day or night. The deck box in the courtyard includes croquet and other outdoor games. We are always available via cell, text or email for any and all questions or recommendations.

Autres remarques
Airbnb is now collecting and remitting VT occupancy tax which is included in your total remittance. If we have accepted your dog, we charge $15 per dog per night payable directly to us via credit card ahead of time or in cash upon arrival.

Rural village setting but extremely convenient to Williamstown, Bennington and points west. Up at the top of the hill next store is a wonderful working farm with iconic views belonging to the Gardner family. Marilyn loves visitors and you can buy eggs, raw milk, honey, maple syrup, and organic beef and pork. The view across the valley from there is included in our photos.
The Pownal Valley has been painted extensively for the past two centuries. Artists like Frank Mason, Georgia O'Keefe and Norman Rockwell have created paintings here, as well as numerous other students and instructors of the Art Students League of NY. The latter maintained a summer boarding house across the street from our barn for many years. We are just 6 miles from either Bennington or Williamstown, MA. The museums, Mass MoCA and the Clark, draw visitors from around the world. Bennington College, Williams College and Southern Vermont college are nearby. There are numerous attractions in the adjacent Berkshires as well.

My husband and I are a photographer / producer combo. In 2006 we converted a Vermont barn complex into a residence, studio and gallery after a 5-year stint in Seattle. But in mid-2014 following the birth of our granddaughter we moved back to Connecticut where we are remodeling a 1980's one-of-a-kind cliff-hanger. We love to travel and meet new people; love reading, movies, music especially blues, jazz and bluegrass; and apparently home renovation.
