Private apartment set amidst the beauty of a serene woodland garden in a historic marble quarry. The perfect lodging for the solo traveler who seeks rest and quiet at the end of a busy day. Our large, owner-occupied Mid-Century-Modern home and gardens are in a safe, secluded and peaceful, older neighborhood within minutes of everything in Knoxville.

Le logement
Newly-renovated and well-appointed European bath and gourmet kitchen. This guest suite of 500 square feet is ideal for one person--or two, if willing to share the deluxe double bed. Multiple floor-to-ceiling windows let in natural light and afford views outdoors to gardens, sitting areas and waterfall. Full-length curtains and special sound-proofing on walls contiguous to the main house ensure sound sleep for travelers who work long hours.

Accès des voyageurs
Separate entrance and one off-street parking space--all on ground floor. Fully equipped and furnished including all towels and linens. Guests are welcome to use one or more of several outdoor patios. Wireless, internet and basic cable. Clean-burning gas fireplace and ceiling fans. Wheelchair accessible depending upon the wheelchair. No smoking, parties or events.

Autres remarques
This is a unique property, built of solid concrete into part of a historic marble quarry that sent marble by barge on the nearby Tennessee River to construct the National Gallery of Art, when it was the world’s largest marble structure. The entire house, a contemporary from the mid-20th century, has undergone a complete renovation during the last three years. Emphasis on good design and a warm, welcoming minimalism in an open, flexible floor plan of 500 square feet.

When you stay in this sublime setting of water, woods and rocks, it will seem as though you are in the Smoky Mountains but, instead, you will be only 5 minutes away from the city center, the University of Tennessee, the UT Medical Center or Cherokee Farm—10 minutes from the airport. Guests in the past three years have included writers, theater directors, physicians and scholars. Private references are available upon request.

We are a builder/artist and a musician/writer married for 42 years who are both in the midst of preparing for some degree of retirement from full time professional occupations. We found Blue Note Garden just after selling Lanntair Farm, a 17-acre horse farm on the west side of town. We loved the barns and seven-gabled Victorian Gothic farmhouse we built on that property but we also spent a great deal of time repairing farm machinery and mowing pastures. While we miss the farm and all of its animals, Blue Note Garden has no grass to mow, 4-seasons of wildflowers, and the house is as solid as the rock it is built on. We cannot imagine living anywhere else. The man of the house is a collector who does not like to travel. The lady of the house is a gardener and reader who has often traveled solo. We both love coming home to this quiet and peaceful place that seems far away in the mountains but is within minutes of Knoxville's finest food, music, theater, art, libraries, bookshop, cafes and shopping.

We live and work here in the main part of a large home. While we go out of our way to ensure your privacy, we encourage you to let us know if you need anything in particular to make your stay a productive and comfortable one.

At the time of your booking inquiry, please tell us why you are visiting Knoxville and complete your Airbnb profile online. At the time of your booking request, we will do our best to help you determine whether our lodging is a good fit for your needs.

This private apartment is in our home and so we do want to personally meet and greet you the first time you visit us. We give a very brief orientation to features of the apartment and how to access everything you need. (Once familiar with the apartment, our repeat guests often come and go and we barely know they've been here. We have had some of the best guests in the world!)
