You will be able to experience our family's way of living and our culture. You will also be able to use our newly built classroom adjacent to the house for your work.

Le logement
A cozy and comfortable stay with Nepalese family fulfilling some of your basic needs in Nepal.

Alvin's Room was named after the room was transformed from a storage space to accommodate Suraj's close friend Alvin Tai from Seattle, USA who was in Nepal on a business trip for a week. We have kept the room very simple.

Our house is located in the heart of Kathmandu valley and just a few minutes walk from all major public transportation. Restaurants, banks, and grocery shop are also within walking distance.

You can literally walk to the airport (30 min) and some of the World Heritage Sites. Also, it is a short bicycle ride to all major attractions (Historical Palaces, Temples, Stupas, Monasteries and popular Tourist Hangouts).

We have had many friends and strangers from abroad spend their time in our house because of the warmth and location. You will get to blend with our family, taste Nepali food and experience the culture just the way it is for us every day. We treat you like our own family.

We will assist you along your tour in negotiating costs for excursions and adventures to make it fun and memorable while making the cost very reasonable for you. We'll provide you a sim card for your telephone need (cost to be born by you) if you request for it.

At no additional cost, we'll serve you three cups of tea every day. You may bring provisions/groceries and cook. We'll teach you Nepali Lessons for as long as you stay with us at a time convenient to both you and a member of our family.

Accès des voyageurs
You can go to the roof of the house and just about any where in the house. There is a classroom in Suraj's office and you can access it while there is no class. During festivals and special occasions, we invite you to participate with us and our neighbors.

Cigarette smoking is not allowed inside the house. Please use areas outside of the house or the rooftop.

Autres remarques
If you wish to use the washing machine, there is a charge of 5 dollars per use. We'll give you one load laundry detergent. Please ask us prior to using the machine because you may not be familiar in using it.

Water and electricity is of scarce in Kathmandu so we request all the guests to use them wisely.

We request you to bring an additional slipper for use inside the house. You will have to leave your outdoor shoes at the main entrance because the streets are not so clean and remain muddy when it rains. There is a separate shoes for toilet to keep it dirt free.
You will be able to experience our family's way of living and our culture. You will also be able to use our newly built classroom adjacent to the house for your work.

We live in a laid back but lively neighborhood with a beautiful Ram temple just two minutes walk. It does get noisy in the morning as people make their presence felt to others with loud greetings. Also, there are vegetable vendors, recycling guys, trash collector etc who make noise to sell fresh green vegetables, collect beer bottles and trashes respectively.

Suraj grew up in Nepal and lives in the center of Kathmandu Valley. From 1995 to 1997, he lived in South India as a student. From 1998 to 2011, he was in the United States. He traveled to the US through an exchange program and worked for Disney's The Animal Kingdom as a cultural representative! It was a one year program sponsored by Walt Disney World, and Suraj had the opportunity to meet and interact with people from all over the globe. After a year in Florida, Suraj went to Texas and lived in the Dallas area as a student from 2000 to 2006. He improved his English and completed a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Texas, Arlington in May 2006. He has worked various jobs to support his education in the U.S. and to send money home to his family in Nepal. His friend, David Furtney, who was working for Turner Broadcasting Company, the parent company of CNN News, suggested that he apply for a job at CNN. Suraj applied and got a job as a News Tip Specialist. He lived in Atlanta for four years and contributed to coverage of the 2008 election, for which CNN received a Peabody Award. Suraj left CNN in July 2010 and made plans to return back to Nepal permanently. Suraj's last six months in the United States were spent in Las Vegas working for Cricket Mobile. Suraj has traveled to many states in the US, including Hawaii, Alaska and Puerto Rico. He has also traveled to Mexico (El Paso, Laredo) and Canada (Vancouver, Banff). After thirteen years in the US, while Suraj was finalizing his return to Nepal, he got the opportunity to work in Qatar for a helicopter company. While in Qatar, he was able to explore other regions of Middle East. He returned to Nepal after an almost two-year stay in Qatar. Suraj lived in Frankfurt, Germany for six months in 2015 and has traveled throughout Western Europe extensively. Suraj loves trekking in the mountains and other various outdoor adventures. He was trekking during the 2015 earthquake and narrowly survived. Suraj, trained to organize and coordinate Search and Rescue Missions, campaigns for safe mountain travel and advises people of potential dangers while trekking in the mountains in Nepal. Suraj owns and manages a trekking and adventure company, Tintin and Sherpa Adventure Trekking, whose office is located next to his house. Suraj offers day hiking trips, motorcycle excursions, and city tours as a guide. He also organizes outdoor adventures that include, bungee jumping, zip-lining, paragliding, rafting etc. Suraj donates 10% of all profits to provide scholarships for classes that he teaches which provide English training to local guides. He also uses the funds to raise safety awareness for citizens living under the threat of avalanche and landslides. Suraj currently supports a girl named Sanju in her education. She was brought to Kathmandu from remote western Nepal during the Maoist conflict in which her father was killed. Her mother's whereabouts are unknown. Sanju is 15 years old and enrolled as a 10th grader at Shree Satya Sai School in Kathmandu. Suraj, and Tintin love to host folks from different parts of the world because they get to meet, know and learn from diverse experiences from around the globe. Hosting on Airbnb has made a significant impact in little Tintin's growth and development. "We like to learn, share and contribute by meeting people like you" - Suraj.
