“A secret passage dating back from 1591 in the midst of the historic center! Walk through the gate at Oude Koornmarkt 16 and you'll feel as if you have journeyed back in time. In the past this alley was where the shoemakers and the poorest people in the city lived. The shoemakers were also in charge of sounding the alarm bell of the cathedral. These days you can find antiques stores and art galleries here as well as the exclusive restaurant Sir Anthony Van Dyck. This guy saved this hidden gem from extinction in the sixties when there where plans to demolish it and make it a parking! The atmosphere is very intimate which is why many people like to come here to listen to the carillon concerts during the summertime.”

“This is my favorite little street, the smallest in town. If you manage to find it, you feel in the middle ages for a moment. If you're lucky you can listen to the 'beiaard', the cathedral bells heavily echoing through the allley. Try to find your way out through another gate than the one you came through.”

“Het is één van de goed verstopte plaatsjes die Antwerpen rijk is. Zo ook de 'Peerdenpoort' die via de Willem Lepelstraat 14 (zijstraat van de Kloosterstraat en een paardenkop in blauwe steen boven de ingang heeft) toegang geeft tot oude 'armenhuisjes' uit de 16de eeuw.”
