We love our neighborhood because we and the other residents recreated it from the ashes, so to speak. This neighborhood is known as the Historic Western Suburb. It dates back to the early 1800's, and is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Lexington. Some houses are known to date back to 1806; and one goes back to the 1790's. It is a very eclectic area with buildings that are over 200-years old, next to ones that were built in the 20th and 21st centuries. There are many different economic levels, and ethnicities, with a good mix of renters and owner-occupiers. By the 1970's this area was literally crumbling away, helped by the presence of all of the city's garbage trucks being parked here. Then various Lexingtonians came in, bought houses to renovate or to sell them to those that would. The garbage trucks were moved, and the neighborhood association hired an architect and builder to build new houses on the old garbage truck lot. Later the neighborhood worked with a developer to create the ARTEK condominium complex on Old Georgetown Street (Yes, where you are now staying.) More condos were created in the area, and many restaurants followed. So we have gone from a perceived undesirable area (2006) to one of Lexington's most unique and desirable urban neighborhoods (2013). Who'd ever of thought!

Nestle in? Join the lively city bustle? The skylit attic of our 1908 house in the heart of downtown makes both easy. Walk to restaurants, breweries, coffee shops, sports events, shows, movies and gelato! Then rest in privacy and quiet in our fully renovated third-floor loft, 42 steps up from the street. Luxurious queen bed and plush-y couch, super-fast wifi, poplar and pine floors, sleek kitchenette, tile/glass shower, Roku TV, keyless entry. 20 minutes to airport and Keeneland Race Course.
What to expect: Our house is a historic three story Queen Anne Victorian on a quiet, old downtown street. It has a big blue front door. Feel free to enjoy our large wraparound porch. Parking is abundant on our street. You will be able to park next to the house. Lexington's central fire station is a few hundred feet away; drivers tend to respect neighbors' quiet time, but you may be able to hear sirens or other city sounds faintly from the loft. Stairs are a central feature: it's 42 steps from the street to your private floor; 35 of the steps are indoors. " I loved the climb up the stairs and it helped me to appreciate the history of your house." You will occupy the entire third floor, 775 freshly renovated square feet. "I loved it when I walked into the room. It was a combination of old wood floors, some modern furniture, a huge comfortable couch and also a comfortable bed." Three owners may be present on the first and second floors. You use the front entrance (blue door). We primarily use the back entrance, increasing privacy for your stay. You may see on of us briefly in the front hall or first floor steps. You may hear us or share the scent of our morning coffee and meals. We are quiet. You will have your own code for the keyless lock on the main (blue) front door and code for a second keyless lock for the loft's interior red door. The queen bed has a new memory foam mattress, multiple pillow sets, dual reading lights and organic cotton sheets. "The bed slept so well. I have a Fitbit that tells me how well I sleep and it said I slept great last night." The brand new bathroom comes equipped with tile and glass shower, lots of organic cotton linens and guest robes. We'll supply shampoo, conditioner and body wash, plus other grooming and hygiene items that you may need. "I love that you offer things so that even in case we had forgotten something like a toothbrush, it was right there for us." Our kitchenette features the top-rated Panasonic Flash Xpress Toaster Oven, Toshiba microwave, Nespresso Vertuo coffee maker and coffees, hot water kettle, refrigerator with small freezer. No stove (city regulations). Enjoy our bright breakfast nook. We have plenty of utensils, place settings, glasses, mugs and cotton table linens. "At every moment that I looked for something it was right there easy to find." We love coffee. So we offer two additional coffee-making options, including a French Press pot and a Melitta pour-over cone and filters, plus freshly roasted coffee. "I loved the coffee options." For light control, there are four skylights with custom room-darkening shades, plus two large windows, also with room-darkening capacity, and plenty of lamps and lights for work, play and reading. Plus: Super-fast internet (Metronet 100 percent fiber, 500M/500M) Work table, chargers Roku TV Two chairs that convert to two twin beds Comforting couch with many pillows Haiku fan Dedicated heating and cooling with environmentally friendly "minisplit" unit Eco-friendly cleaning products Filter tap for unlimited delicious water without jugs, bottles, or lugging up the stairs There is no dedicated washer and dryer for the loft; for longer stays, check with us about sharing a washer/dryer on a lower floor.
Many wonders lie within a one-mile radius of our house. > Beautiful coffee places > Bakeries > Escape Rooms/Breakout Games > Restaurants > Craft beer, breweries, bars, distilleries, cideries > Rupp Arena (world class basketball, great concerts) > The Opera House (music, theater) > Pam Miller Downtown Arts Center > Kentucky Theater (historic movie palace) > Lyric Theatre and Cultural Arts Center > University of Kentucky > Transylvania University And much more A few intriguing events happen in our literal back yard each year: On the evening of the first of November each year, our city's marvelous Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) ceremony and celebration happens on all sides of our house, culminating in the Old Episcopal Burying Ground (established 1832), which is visible from our house. Our neighbor, the Living Arts & Science Center, produces this event. Each September, the week and weekend after Labor Day, the city's huge Roots & Heritage Festival, celebrating African American history and presence in Lexington, happens within yards of our house. Most Monday nights, a roots music radio show, Woodsongs Old Time Radio Hour, tapes a free live performance at the historic, renovated Lyric Theatre and Cultural Arts Center, visible from our back windows. Each October, the one-day Phoenix Rising Festival honors the crucial African American foundations of horse racing in central Kentucky. The Festival takes place minutes from our house, often at the Isaac Murphy Memorial Art Garden, named for the African American jockey who won three Kentucky Derbies.
