“One of the most famous attractions in all of Europe. Take a train through the mountain to a station overlooking Grindelwald on one and a glacier on the other side. An absolute must!”

“On the west side of Interlaken is Lake Thun, a long, narrow lake surrounded by mountains. The best way to explore the lake is on one of the cruise boats that operate from Interlaken year-round or in the summer on the beautifully restored historic paddle steamer. At the western end of the lake, you can stop in Thun with its medieval Old Town and lakeside castle with a striking keep that overlooks the lake. It was built in 1191 and enlarged in 1492, and today houses a historical museum with 14th-century arms and armor, tapestries, furniture, and prehistoric and Roman artifacts. Other castles and several Romanesque churches are in villages that dot the shore of Lake Thun. Schloss Shadau, easy to spot right on the water, is a smaller replica of Chateau Azay-le-Rideau, on the Loire in France.”

“Incredibly immense, incredibly beautiful: the Large Aletsch Glacier is the Alps' mightiest ice flow. And the most popular, for it is easily accessible and is ideally situated for extensive hikes, winter sports and special nature excursions. It is also UNESCO World Heritage.”

Transportation
“One of the most popular things to do in the beautiful Bernese Oberland is the train journey to Jungfraujoch, the "Top of Europe," with an observation terrace and scientific observatory perched at 3,454 meters. The longest glacier in Europe, the Great Aletsch Glacier begins at Jungfraujoch, and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The famous Eiger Trail from the Eiger glacier station to Alpiglen clings to the rocks at the foot of the north face. Other popular walks include Panorama Way to the sunny, south-facing First slope; the Gletscherschlucht (Glacier Gorge); and Öpfelchüechliwäg, the high-altitude trail from Holenstein to Brandegg through fields of flowers, alpine pastures, and woodlands. The less active can ride gondolas and cable cars to scenic viewpoints over the Lauterbrunnen Valley. Picturesque Grindelwald is a glacier village in the Jungfrau region, which makes a great base for adventures into the surrounding mountains. It nestles at the base of snow-cloaked mountains and is one of Switzerland's oldest and most popular resorts. Towering above this alpine valley is the tiara-shaped Wetterhorn and the sheer north face of the Eiger, one of the planet's most dramatic and difficult climbs. Between the mountains lie Grindelwald's two glinting glaciers. For the best views, Faulhorn, at 2,681 meters, offers breathtaking panoramas of the giant peaks.”

Bar
“Don’t miss a visit to this family favourite of ours. If you are after a real bar with character then you have to visit AVOCADO ! Great bar, fantastically friendly staff, easy going atmosphere, playing some great music and interesting locals. Alex, the owner is an absolute legend, makes you feel very comfortable and he loves what he does which makes it a better experience. The highlight here is a large beer garden and bar out back, perfect for summer days. You can’t beat having the view of the Eiger Mountain while having a delicious beer. It is simply awesome!”

Scenic Lookout
“Jungfraujoch! The highest train station in Europe. This is a VERY crowded place to visit as it's one of the most heavily visited tourist spots in Switzerland. It's a pricey train ticket, but worth the trip if you can justify it. Many people travel from around the world solely to see the Jungfraujoch. PRO TIP: take the very first train up for the best chance of good weather and to beat the peak tourist times. ”

South of Lake Thun is the Niesen with its distinctive pyramid shape. At 2,362 metres above sea level, it offers a comprehensive panoramic view of the imposing Bernese Alps, Lakes Thun and Brienz, the Bernese Mittelland and the Jura mountains. Even a ride on the funicular from the Mülenen valley station is an unforgettable experience. The steepness (up to 68% gradient) and the length (3,499 m) are impressive. From the cabins you can already enjoy the wonderful view. Au sud du lac de Thoune se trouve le Niesen avec sa forme pyramidale caractéristique. Avec ses 2 362 mètres d'altitude, il offre une vue panoramique complète sur les imposantes Alpes bernoises, les lacs de Thoune et de Brienz, le Mittelland bernois et les montagnes du Jura.
