Restaurant thaïlandais
“Pok Pok, back in 2005, started as a little take out space. We thought, oh, I wonder if that will make it. Now, some 14 years later, Pok Pok is it's own little Thai food kingdom, with four Portland restaurants and one in Los Angeles. The food shines, the waits can be long, and it's the kind of place that's made Portland become what people know it to be today. Pok Pok located on SE Division is the original Pok Pok serving SE Asia street and pub food, mostly centered on North and NE Thailand. If you are on the waitlist, you can enjoy appetizers and beverages at their across the street location, Whiskey Soda Lounge, located kitty-corner from Pok Pok. Their hosts happily coordinate between the two locations. Hours 11:30am-10pm”

“This is a cool space, it was an elementary school and was transformed into a campus of restaurants, bars, soaking pool, movie theater. Good rain or shine activity.”

Nouvelle cuisine américaine
“ One of the best breakfast/brunch/dinner spots in the neighborhood and an easy 15min walk. There is almost always a wait but it's quick... walk around the hood while your table awaits.”

Rock Club
“American fast-food style burger in a bar/restaurant with a nice outdoor patio. Most pubs in the neighborhood offer good, hefty burgers with plenty of dressings, this is a simpler, slightly smaller one, but solid and satisfying. This restaurant is attached to the lovely Mississippi Studios music venue.”

Restaurant mexicain
“A local favorite. Small outpost drawing crowds for tacos & other Mexican basics made with a nod to sustainability. Margaritas here are fantastic.”

Jardin
“One of Portland's coolest and most beautiful spots in a sketchy area. The Chinese Gardens are a full block radius oasis in Chinatown and so worth the visit. They have the Tao of Tea teahouse inside and you can easily spend a couple of hours relaxing and wandering and taking photos and having tea. Just be aware that Chinatown is not a nice area. It's an intriguing contrast. ”

Café
“Ok. Ignore this photo. Not a good representation of their cuisine. Imagine comfort food as comforting as you've ever had. Amazing breads. Sumptuous salads. Wholesome soups. Grits. Fluffly pancakes. We don't go here often because it's hard to get into, but if you're patient and want to experience amazingly prepared just good food, go here. And check out their instagram. ”

Café
“The place that started the third-wave coffee craze. They pull a great shot of espresso and don't have the hoity-toity attitude so many other fancy places have. Free wifi, as well.”

“My favorite coffee in town. They've got a few locations in NE, NW, SW. The alberta spot is spacious, the spot in NW is in the trendier industrial area.”

Pie Shop
“A low-key coffee shop with quick breakfast items, and award winning pies (you can't help but have a slice of banana cream, really!). In the heart of Alberta Street shops. The music is a bit loud, and seating can be difficult to find, but if you go at the right time...”

“A gourmet donut place. Interesting business plan. They make what they think they will sell, and close when they are gone. Don't assume that they will still be open before published closing time.”
