Plaza
“Baščaršija is the old part of Sarajevo and during the Ottoman period it was the main artery of the city – the main trading area and an epicenter for nearly all of the important social goings-on. Baščaršija still has two old covered bazaars, known as Gazi Husrev Bey's Bezistan and Brusa Bezistan, then there’s Gazi Hurev Bey's Mosque, Medresa and Library; Sahat Kula (Clock Tower), the workshops of Sarajevo's famous artisans, Morića Han (inn) and Kolobara Han.... Baščaršija is also the gastronomical center of Sarajevo because it's here in this part of town that you'll find the most popular aščinicas, buregdžinicas, ćevabdžinicas.... A must-see destination for all visitors is the famous Baščaršija Square and Sebilj – one of the most impressive symbols of Sarajevo.”

“Les flammes et les bombes n'ont pas réussi à détruire la culture. Cette beauté a tenu tête à la barbarie humaine, et aujourd'hui, encore plus belle qu'il y a 20 ans, elle reste fière et insoumise.”

Place of Worship
“Very big, old and beautiful mosque built in the center of Baščaršija in 1530. Bey’s Mosque was designed by Adžem Esir Ali, a Persian from Tabriz, who was the chief architect in the Ottoman Empire at that time. The mosque was built as part of a vakuf (endowment) established by the Ottoman Governor, Gazi Husrev Bey, who governed Bosnia, more or less continuously, from 1521 until his death in 1541. Today, this mosque is rightly seen as the most important architectural monument from the time of Ottoman rule in Bosnia and Herzegovina. There are many Bosnian leaders buried in the mosque’s courtyard, including Reis-ul-Ulema, Mehmed Džemaludin Čaušević; the politician, Dr. Mehmed Spaho; the reformer, Ali Bey Firdus; the poet, Safvet Bey Bašagić....”

Église
“One of the mandatory stops if you came to see the "Europe's Jerusalem" as Sarajevo is often called. The cathedral is built in the Neo-Gothic style, with Romanesque Revival elements. The building was designed by Josip Vancaš that modeled it after the Notre-Dame in Dijon (France). In front you can see the statue of Pope John II that is a very loved throughout the city because of help and morale support he provided for all Bosnians after the war.”

“A nice viewpoint of the whole city, especially the Old Town at any point in the day but we'd recommend to visit it for the sunset as the view becomes truly magical. On your way up you can cross the Kovaci memorial center for the fallen soldiers of the Bosnian war (1992-1995) that is also the resting place of the first Bosnian president, Alija Izetbegovic.”
