Restaurant
“This quirky restaurant has been featured on the Travel Channel, New York Times and Texas Monthly. I love that they are locally owned and have the most unique menu of any restaurant on the Island. Definitely not upscale.. The Houston Chronicle describes it this way-- eclectic bohemian paradise decorated with quirky chandeliers, colorful tapestries, mismatched chairs and strands of flashy beads dangling from the ceiling. The food is amazing- offering unusual ingredients that make everyday eating an adventure. They do have vegetarian dishes as well. Located near downtown at 2711 Market with free on street parking. Closed Mondays. ”

“This place is great for lunch! I don’t particularly like pizza that much, but I could seriously eat a whole pizza from this place. There’s plenty of seating so this place is ideal for a large group! ”

Cafe
“Located near UTMB, this is a locals' favorite for brunch, where you can get carafes of mimosas with orange, grapefruit, pineapple or cranberry juice. Make this your breakfast or lunch spot, because they close at 3 PM. My favorites for lunch are the Mile High Meatloaf or the Goat Cheese and Candied Pecan Salad. ”

Ice Cream Shop
“Locally made and loved by locals, Hey Mikey's is the best place for ice cream...not just on the island, but ANYWHERE! There's a reason the line is out the door sometimes, but it's always worth the wait. New flavors are always popping up, with interesting combinations and flavors sure to please. Some example are Nutter Butter, Irish Car Bomb, and Grandma's Nuts, but there are 20 flavors to choose from on any given day. Need a few more carbs? Stick a scoop in a freshly baked donut! Yep, they do that too. Or warm up one of their home made brownies (seriously - BEST brownie you'll ever have) and have a scoop or three on top. ”
