“10 Downing Street, colloquially known in the United Kingdom as Number 10, is the headquarters of the Government of the United Kingdom and the official residence and office of the First Lord of the Treasury, a post which, for much of the 18th and 19th centuries and invariably since 1905, has been held by the Prime Minister. Situated in Downing Street in the City of Westminster, London, Number 10 is over 300 years old and contains approximately 100 rooms. A private residence occupies the third floor and there is a kitchen in the basement. The other floors contain offices and conference, reception, sitting and dining rooms where the Prime Minister works.”

“When she's away at her summer palace in Scotland, visitors can purchase tickets for tours of the State Rooms, the Queen's Gallery and the Royal Mews. One of the best ways to tour the palace, see the Changing of the Guard, and experience a traditional afternoon tea, is on a 4.5 hour Buckingham Palace Tour Including Changing of the Guard Ceremony and Afternoon Tea. This tour is a very efficient way of seeing the highlights in a short period of time, and having a knowledgeable guide to explain the history makes the whole experience that much more enjoyable and relevant for first time visitors”

“There can be few London experiences more magical than dinner in this spellbinding dining room. It really doesn’t get ritzier than a night at the Ritz, with its gilded ceiling and gracious, polished-to-perfection waiters. John Williams, MBE, heads up the kitchen and he’s all about the very finest seasonal British produce – Scottish lobster, Norfolk crab or beef Wellington are favourites, and you’d be bonkers not to order the crêpes Suzette for pudding (they’ll fire them up on a gleaming silver tray by your table). A pianist tinkling away in the background every evening adds a romantic feel and helps the real world fade away for a while. ”

Bar
“Hidden away beneath the hugely popular restaurant, Cambridge Street Kitchen, this lovely, hard to find cocktail bar occupies its own niche in the nightlife of Pimlico. The building itself is a former Victorian pub with a sordid reputation, transformed by the Artist Residence group. There’s a great range of drinks on offer in an intimate, low key setting that also hosts a monthly-changing selection of artwork — courtesy of a partnership with Soho’s Lawrence Alkin Gallery. Head down on Tuesday night for Test Tuesday’s, to see bar manager Steven and his team experiment with cocktails created using seasonal produce from the restaurant’s fresh fruit and veg supplier — and they’re cheaper than nor”

“Changing of the Guard Some kids find this a little dull, others love the pomp and tradition. The best place to see the guards is on The Mall, near St. James’s Palace. If your kids are small they won’t see much squashed in with the crowds at Buckingham Palace. There is also a Changing of the Guard at Windsor Palace (35 minutes outside of London by train) that sees far smaller crowds but offers more pageantry. ages: 2+ tube: St. James’s Park, Green Park, Hyde Park Corner times: 11:30 but be in place by 11:00 am at the lastest.
