This place is not always open, and can be hard to find (the entrance is by the elevators inside Operapassasjen), but has great views and can be fun.

Great location, especially summertime. Weekends they usually have a cover charge and some gig playing, but I like mostly to hang out there. Sundays they have a free band from 5 pm.

Good selection of beer and situated smack next to the river (and almost on level with the water - it's borderline scary!) Norway's longest bar...

Another great coffee place situated in the old fire station. They roast their coffee on site and have excellent ice cream.

This used to be a cheap lunch spot, but somehow they found out how great they are! Still, they have such a charming place, good food and Norway's biggest selection of Aqua vitae. (don't try it)

A great french cake/coffee/lunch spot. Slightly expensive, but the cakes are to die for.

Oslo's cheapest "indian" food - except it's pakistani. They serve great, authentic food in less charming surroundings. Try the saag paneer.

Sightseeing
The ferries from Aker Brygge take you here by an ordinary public transport ticket. This island has a lot of history, is a protected natural habitat and a great spot for hiking, swimming and BBQs.

A fun place to go for foodies, although everything is expensive. I go mainly for the samples. Walking up here along the river is a nice walk.
