I always take overseas guests here because you can pick up a reasonably priced pounamu (greenstone) or a more expensive original artists piece. There's something for everyone.

There's a cool little bush walk up to a waterfall on Glen Esk Road that's awesome. In summer you can swim at the base of the waterfall. It's only a 20 minute easy walk in.

This spot is a stunning place to watch the sun go down. Up over the hill at Maori Bay is the gannet colony and you can walk along the track to it and look down at the birds and chicks (August - March)

Muriwai Beach extends 60 kilometres to the north - a line of black sand between the thundering surf and the sand hills is a great place to walk and unwind. This spot is a stunning place to watch the sun go down. Up over the hill at Maori Bay is the gannet colony and you can walk along the track to it and look down at the birds and chicks (August - March)

Ducks, Swans, Geese all roam around the paths that surround the pond. There is a childrens playground, near the zoo entrance end of the park. This is a short walk from the house, and an easy bike ride.

There are eateries, bars. Up the hill is Mickey Savage Memorial where you will see awesome views of the harbour.
